Although this Chardonnay is 100% stainless-steel fermented, there is a richness of flavor and texture here that could lead you to believe otherwise. Honey, flowers, pear and rich, almost Tokay-like aromas open to a full palate of very good fruit and spicy, nutty flavors. No oak, and yet no lack of weight.

Oyster Bay 2002 Chardonnay (Marlborough & Hawkes Bay)

Smells of powerful stone fruits such as nectarines and plums. Leaves a sweet, fruit-cocktail-like impression on the palate, but finishes clean and citrusy. A bit simple, but it makes for a satisfying, flavorful mouthful of wine.

Sweet peas and gooseberries put a subtle mark on this full, soft wine that’s only mildly herbaceous. The residual sugar is just at the threshold of perceptibility, imparting greater weight without making the wine taste sweet.
