Neudorf 2009 Moutere Chardonnay (Nelson)

  1. $45
A top-notch offering, this combines ample weight and richness with an impression of focus and purity. It’s smoky and subtly toasty on the nose, seamlessly marrying those notes with apple, peach and citrus flavors. Long, lingering and very fine on the finish. Drink now–2017.  — J.C.  (8/1/2012)

Neudorf 2008 Moutere Chardonnay (Nelson)

  1. $48
The 2008 Moutere continues the run of success Neudorf has been on, offering delectable hints of buttered toast alongside subtle peach notes and grilled nuts. It’s medium to full in body, but reined in by crisp acids, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now–2015, perhaps longer.  — J.C.  (4/1/2011)

Neudorf 2010 Moutere Riesling (Nelson)

  1. $27
Neudorf seems to do almost everything well, and the winery’s efforts with Riesling off the Moutere clays are no exception. It’s made in a light- to medium-bodied style, off dry, with crisp notes of lime, green apple and wet stone that linger on the mouthwatering finish.  — J.C.  (4/1/2012)

Neudorf 2007 Moutere Pinot Noir (Nelson)

  1. $48
This wine’s beautifully complex aromas include hints of brown sugar, cinnamon, dried herbs and flowers, all swirling around a core of cherry fruit. It’s medium-bodied and supple in the mouth, yet it retains a sense of power and sinewy acids that should make it drink well for 5–8 years.  — J.C.  (6/1/2011)

Seifried 2004 Riesling (Nelson)

  • Best Buy
  1. $15
From the little-known region of Nelson, this Riesling bursts with petrol and lime scents. Quite full-bodied for a Riesling, with a touch of residual sugar and plenty of alcohol (12.5%), yet it retains a sense of grace and a finely developed minerality not often found in New World Riesling. Imported by Robert Whale Selections Inc.  — J.C.  (7/1/2005)

Neudorf 2004 Chardonnay (Nelson)

  1. $30
Not quite as special as the Moutere bottling, but Neudorf’s Nelson Chardonnay, which contains mostly Moutere fruit, is still a standout. Toasty, pineapple aromas are more obvious than those in Moutere, and the wine is slightly less textured but carries more upfront tropical and peach fruit. Ends on a spicy, oaky note. Drink now-2010. Imported by Epic Wines.  — J.C.  (5/1/2006)

Neudorf 2003 Moutere Chardonnay (Nelson)

  1. $53
Neudorf’s reign as one of NZ’s top Chardonnay producers continues with this effort from its Moutere plantings. Rich melon aromas are bolstered by subtle toasty notes that are more nutty than overtly oaky, then powerful citrus fruit shines on the richly textured palate. Turns nutty again on the extended finish. Drink now–2010. The 2004 will be imported by Epic Wines.  — J.C.  (5/1/2006)

Neudorf 2006 Chardonnay (Nelson)

  1. $32
Lovely scents of toasted hazelnuts, apple and lime set the stage for a top-flight Chardonnay. It’s medium- to full-bodied, round and broad in the mouth, then gains focus on the lime-driven finish. Delicious now, and should hold up well in the cellar for up to six years.  — J.C.  (12/1/2007)
