Goldwater 1998 Red (Waiheke Island)

Fairly herbaceous, with aromas and flavors of green tea, herbs and tobacco that are complemented by cherry fruit. The soft tannins on the long, echoing finish bode well for the cellar.  — J.C.  (5/1/2001)

Goldwater 2000 Zell Chardonnay (Waiheke Island)

  1. $40
You may mistake this light and elegant Chard for a white Burgundy; It's light on the nose, with flour-chalk and herbal notes. Apple-skin and tart pear flavors take over in the mouth. Even and medium-bodied on the palate, it finishes gravelly in texture, with lime -rind and herb flavors.  — D.T.  (12/15/2001)

Goldwater 1999 Esslin Merlot (Waiheke Island)

  1. $98
This elegant, medium-weight Merlot shows a Bordeaux-like nose of damp earth and tobacco, but also more New World-ish cherry and vanilla flavors. Tobacco and chocolate shadings add depth and complexity.  — J.C.  (12/15/2003)

Mudbrick 2008 Reserve Syrah (Waiheke Island)

Smoky, cedary and, frankly, a bit dominated by oak. It’s nice oak, and the fruit is rich in body and thick in texture, just slightly muted. Perhaps an additional year or two of cellaring will see the oak integrate more and the fruit come forward.  — J.C.  (6/1/2010)

Goldwater 1998 Esslin Merlot (Waiheke Island)

  1. $99
Shows obvious oak influence that seems almost like maple syrup in character; also solid black-cherry fruit that has just a hint of dried herbs. Low acidity gives it an appealing lushness.  — J.C.  (5/1/2001)
