Blandy's 1969 Bual (Madeira)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $230

A superb wine that brings together all the great elements of aged Madeira. There is a wonderful tight acidity over the natural sweetness of the wine, with notes of raisin, dark plum, smoke and surprising freshness, considering its age. This gorgeous limited edition wine will not age longer in the bottle, but can certainly be kept for several weeks once opened.

Blandy's 1998 Colheita Single Harvest Sercial (Madeira)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50

This bone-dry, wood-aged Madeira is intense. Acidity vies with the old wood and spice to give a wine that is unique. The long wood aging has not reduced the vibrancy of the wine, leaving a lingering and impressive aftertaste.

Blandy's 1998 Colheita Single Harvest Verdelho (Madeira)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50

Made from one of the noble grapes of Madeira and aged in wood, this medium-dry wine is rich, concentrated and dense, with just hints of fruit and its original perfumed character. A wonderful tang shows at the end as freshness kicks in. Like any old wood-aged wine, it is ready to drink.

Cossart Gordon 1995 Colheita Bual (Madeira)

  • Editors' Choice

Bual is the grape that creates the medium-sweet style of Madeira, and this wine fits the bill perfectly. It is a great wine, with its honey, its citrus to balance, its dark, nutty flavors, its merest hint of sweetness. To finish, there is a long, ripe caramel taste, balanced with layers of acidity.

The Rare Wine Co. NV Historic Series Boston Bual Special Reserve Madeira Blend (Madeira)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $40

Slightly richer than the Charleston Sercial, the Boston Bual boasts knockout aromas of toasted nut oil, orange peel and hints of dark honey or maple syrup. Despite the extra weight and sweetness, it’s not cloying at all—the finish is mouthwatering and long.

The Rare Wine Co. NV Historic Series Charleston Sercial Special Reserve Madeira Blend (Madeira)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $40

The Historic Series are simply great Madeiras at reasonable prices. The Charleston Sercial is the driest of the collection, offering nutty aromas tinged with honey, caramel and maple syrup. Dried figs, honey and candied citrus flavors mark the palate, which is wonderfully smooth. The long finish features racy yet balanced acidity.

The Rare Wine Co. NV Historic Series New York Malmsey Special Reserve Madeira Blend (Madeira)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $40

The sweetest and richest in the Historic series, the New York Malmsey unfolds slowly in the glass, gradually revealing layers of depth and flavor. Coffee, toffee and date notes emerge, followed by earthy, almost truffley flavors. Powerful and assertive on the long finish.

Blandy's NV 10 Year Old Dry Sercial (Madeira)

As warmer weather approaches, this is a wine that should immediately come to mind at apéritif time. This bone-dry style, with its inimitable nutty character, is so fresh, so vibrant. It has some tannins, enlivening acidity giving a great lift at the end. Bring on the freshly salted, roasted almonds.
