Not exactly sleek but if you’re O.K. with better than average size, sweetness and heat, it’s more than fine. Aromas of sweet black plums are soft and stewy, yet the palate remains racy, with nervy cherry and raspberry flavors. A solid wine with just enough grit and bite. Sweet and ripe smelling, with licorice and black cherry on the nose. The mouthfeel has a slight astringency to it, but the overall emphasis seems to be on red fruit so that narrowness works. Fresh, quenching and seemingly made to go with foods such as chorizo or fatty Spanish ham. 900 cases made. Imported by Vino Cava.

A full-bodied red blend from Montsant. The nose is big and smells of black cherry, licorice and herbal, foresty notes, while the palate is saturated and grabby at the edges, with herb-tinged, roasted-berry flavors. Snappy and cheek-starching on the finish; drink now through 2011.

This is dense and saturated, with crushed blackberry and plum aromas that turn more jammy and granular as the wine breathes. It’s extracted and heavy on the palate, with candied black plum and berry flavors that lose steam on the finish. This could be too heavy for fans of leaner-bodied wines.

Plum and berry aromas get a strong assist from notes of mint and licorice on the nose. Lively and packed on the palate, it’s acidic and lean, even more so as it unwinds and breathes. Flavors of baked red plum and mocha are followed by a balsamic-tasting finish.

Controlled, slightly leathery, honest and nice overall. A mix of black cherries and herbal aromas ride the bouquet, while the palate is earthy and shows plum and mild tomato flavors. A good mouthfeel that’s more racy than outright heavy allows the wine to cleanse and not overwhelm what you’re eating.

More basic and strained than prior wines from this producer. The nose is rubbery and cheesy at first, with leather and blackberry. Hard, tannic and acidic as well, and only a little softer with airing. Flavors are of snappy, tough cherry and berry, and the finish shows tannic bite. Could improve some with aging; now it’s a tough go.

Seems a touch green and stripped at first, but airing brings it around. Still, there’s a lot of fresh wood and resin, which somewhat masks the plum and berry fruit that’s eager to emerge. Spicy on the finish, with a decent feel.
