Rasa Vineyards 2008 Creative Impulse DuBrul Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Yakima Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $95
Top 100 Cellar Selections 2011 Score Chasers: USA 2011
A fine expression of the special strengths of the DuBrul vineyard. The fruit is pure and juicy, a riot of blueberry, blackberry and cassis. There is a focused thread of fresh herb and as the nose expands the baking spices kick in beautifully. A wine to study and explore; it can continue to evolve for hours, if not days.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Cote Bonneville 2005 DuBrul Vineyard Red (Yakima Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $120
Graceful and aromatic, this 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot is the top end wine from the estate-grown DuBrul vineyard. It has both elegance and intensity, and expresses power without falling prey to over-ripeness, excessive oak or other tricks of the trade. It captures the fruit and earth and herb of the Bordeaux grapes, tossing in hints of graphite and cedar…  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

McCrea 2008 Boushey Vineyard Sirocco Blanc White (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
Among McCrea’s Rhône-inspired white wines, this is the most complete and complex. It’s rich and dense, with honeycomb, lychee, lemon rind, pineapple and lots of stone—lovely and lingering. It seems to gain strength as it rolls through a sensational finish.  — P.G.  (3/1/2010)

Owen Roe 2007 Lady Rosa Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $45
Very impressive—dark, aromatic, totally ripe and saturated, yet retaining Syrah’s delicate, floral aromatics, streaks of citrus, amplified with a stunning array of harmonic accents. The flavors waft along, powerful and refined, plush and muscular; the wine seems to gather force and length as it extends into finishing flavors of licorice, smoke and coffee.  — P.G.  (11/1/2009)

Maison Bleue 2009 Soleil Roussanne (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
Another stellar effort from this terrific new winery. Luscious aromas—stone fruits, candy, wax, peel, honey, cumin, allspice—it just keeps on going. Firm in the mouth, with the same exotic and refined blend of interesting spices and fruits. A tour de force.  — P.G.  (7/1/2011)

Andrew Will 2007 Two Blondes Vineyard Red Wine (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $46
This Two Blondes is the best ever—powerful and ripe, with a plush mix of raspberry and strawberry fruit, tart and tangy and mouthfilling. This wine has a huge midpalate, but doesn’t stop there; as it slowly winds through a full-throttle finish, threads of chocolate, coconut, caramel and coffee appear. The flavors go on for several minutes.  — P.G.  (8/1/2010)

Stevens 2006 XY Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $42
This is the most compact and least expressive wine of the current releases from Stevens. It’s the winery’s reserve, and a proven ager, but needs plenty of breathing time to release the layers of iron, earth, blackberry, black cherry, iodine, smoke and licorice.  — P.G.  (12/31/2009)

McCrea 2003 Boushey Vineyard Syrah (Yakima Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $52
As with the Ciel bottling, this is pure Syrah from a single vineyard. As usual, the Boushey is more forward and opulent and this vintage is packed with flavors and scents of smoked meat, herb, red fruits and chocolate. Despite its heft it remains precise, focused and beautifully defined. No blast of new oak; it’s got wonderful balance.  — P.G.  (11/15/2006)
