Bordeaux-style Blends are a style of wine rather than an individual variety. The five classic red grapes used are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Typically, Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Merlot are the main components in the blend, with smaller percentages of the other three varieties. Bordeaux-style blends may also be labeled Meritage or Claret. Though there is a regional name attached to this listing, not all wines categorized as Bordeaux-style Blends are from Bordeaux; in fact, Bordeaux-style Blends are produced all over the world. You can use Wine Enthusiast’s online Buying Guide to find the top-rated Bordeaux-style Blends among our extensive Bordeaux-style Blend wine reviews and easy-to-use database. Our Bordeaux-style Blend reviews will give you a general idea what to expect from wines made in the Bordeaux style, and will help you find one that best suits your needs.
Perhaps of all the first growths in the totally un-classic 2000, this retains most of the classic Bordeaux. It is certainly almost black in color, while the new wood flavors are very present. But it shows an impressive restraint, leaving the power of the wine to be revealed over the years rather than immediately. This could well be the longest-lived of the Pauillac…

The aroma is deep and inviting, equal parts new oak, Cabernet fruit and dried herbs. Has tremendous weight, with red and black cherry, cola, chocolate, cassis and roasted coconut flavors. Brilliant now, virtually flawless and totally delicious, yet has the impeccable balance to age and even improve over the years. The listed price is its pre-release price. Drink…

98-100 Barrel Sample. This has to be the wine of the vintage. It sums up all the positives of a great year: glorious fruit, power, elegance and acidity to balance. The tannins are enormous but they are still brooding rather than extracted. 87% of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Initially dense, almost black enough to be attacked with a knife. But then it becomes apparent that this is a beautifully integrated, balanced wine, bringing together power, with the hallmark Lafite style and poise. In the end, you have a wine that promises an impressive aging potential along with delicious black currant fruits, acidity and a layer of striking…

98-100 Barrel sample. Sumptuous, opulent, with gorgeous ripe fruit, and yet under 14 percent alcohol. The firm tannins are almost smothered by the delicious fruits. It is a great wine that expresses both the natural exuberance of Palmer and the rich fruit and balancing freshness of the vintage.

98-100 Barrel sample. A superb wine, with the purest fruit, great freshness and ripeness. It is certainly structured with dry tannins, but the blackcurrant freshness is all there. The wine has a great limpid, flowing feel, lbut also power.

98-100. Very concentrated and wonderfully perfumed wine. It has great balance and acidity, intense freshness. The superb fragrance of the Cabernet Franc has made a gorgeous wine, black fruited and likely to age for decades.

98-100 Very concentrated wood and tannins. With 90 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, this is initially more tannic than many Château Margaux vintages. Then all the elegance and style of Margaux comes through, with acidity, spice and great ripeness. An outstanding wine.
