Domaine Luneau-Papin 2001 Clos des Noëlles Excelsior Melon (Muscadet Sèvre et Maine)

  1. $35
A wonderfully balanced wine, rich, rounded but showing off the crispness, the tightness of great Muscadet. There is a yeasty, creamy element here, from its 30 month’s aging on the lees before bottling, but this just makes the crispness even more exciting.  — R.V.  (11/15/2008)

Benjamin NV Museum Reserve Tokay

  1. $16
A delicious fruit-forward Port-style wine. It has a rich, silky texture, with concentrated, lingering fruit leading to a long and hugely satisfying finish.  — L.W.  (3/1/2000)

Kracher 2001 Nummer 4, TBA Scheurebe (Burgenland)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $74
An astonishingly aromatic, richly flavored wine. Powerful layers of spice, of acidity, of fresh fruit, a touch of lemon zest and flavors of lychees and apricots all mingle in a wine of enormous energy and power.  — R.V.  (5/1/2004)

Kollwentz 1999 TBA Welschriesling (Burgenland)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $121
A luxurious, opulent wine, deep gold in color, with ripe, luscious fruit. The wine has acidity, a fine sweet/dry botrytis structure and great deep layers of apricots, figs and almonds. It should last for 20 years or more.  — R.V.  (5/1/2004)

Juris 2001 TBA Welschriesling (Burgenland)

  1. $45
An enormously sweet wine, very intense, but manages to retain a feeling of structure and shape. Like drinking syrup, it has flavors of sweet apricots and still is able to bring acidity into the balance.  — R.V.  (5/1/2004)

Velich 1999 Trockenbeerenauslese Welschriesling (Burgenland)

  1. $75
A golden-orange color with flecks of brown gives the (correct) impression of great ripeness. This is an unctuously sweet TBA, filled with layers of brown sugar, honey, caramel and figs, accented by dried spices. Long and honeyed on the finish.  — J.C.  (12/15/2004)

Weinrieder 2005 Hohenleiten Welschriesling Eiswein (Niederösterreich)

  1. $40
Tropical fruits combine with honey to give a wine with both exotic flavors and considerable intensity and weight. Still, as befits an ice wine, there is some delicacy from pure, piercing acidity.  — R.V.  (10/1/2006)

Gsellmann & Hans 2003 Scheurebe Eiswein (Neusiedlersee)

  1. $27
A delicate but intense wine, with ripe apricot flavors. Liquid honey and just a hint of spice add an intriguing element to a delicious wine.  — R.V.  (2/1/2007)
