2 Up 2005 Shiraz (South Australia)

From the makers of Kangarilla Road but from purchased McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Peninsula fruit, this is an outstanding value. It’s a high-intensity Aussie Shiraz, powerful but not without nuance, combining smoky, meaty scents with blackberry and spice, even some white pepper on the finish. Tannins are creamy-smooth, so there’s no need for further aging.  — J.C.  (6/1/2007)

2 Up 2006 Shiraz (South Australia)

A warm, inviting wine, with scents of brown sugar, plum and baking spices. The tannins are creamy-soft, imparting a lush texture, balanced by just enough acidity to keep it from being thick or cloying. Finishes with plenty of fruit, plus a dash of chocolate.  — J.C.  (11/15/2007)

A pleasant, medium-bodied Shiraz that features piles of ripe berries alongside a touch of rhubarb-like herbaceousness. Reasonably concentrated and long; turns crisp on the finish.  — J.C.  (2/1/2010)

Made by Kevin O’Brien at Kangarilla Road winery, but this is not as enjoyable as that brand’s wines. This one offers confected aromas, and tangy, acidic berry flavors. Simple and entry-level.  — D.T.  (6/1/2006)
