True to Passito tradition, this luminous dessert wine delivers intense and pristine aromas of dried figs, dried fruit, raisin, apricot, honey, almond and natural rubber. On the close is a blast of freshness and the wine’s rich, raisin like flavors last a long time.  — M.L.  (2/1/2008)

Abraxas 2007 Zibibbo (Passito di Pantelleria)

  1. $56
Sweet Zibibbo grapes are dried under the sun for concentration and power. Abraxas makes one of the most traditional interpretations with a dark amber color and pure aromas of raisin, dried apricot and chestnut honey.  — M.L.  (12/31/2010)

Abraxas 2007 Kuddia di Zè Red (Sicilia)

  1. $50
A hearty blend of Carignano, Syrah and Grenache, this interesting Sicilian red offers aromas of smoked meat and spice backed by a rich texture and a fresh acidic close. The wine takes a modern approach with grapes that are rarely used in Sicily.  — M.L.  (7/1/2011)

Abraxas 2006 Scirafi Zibibbo (Passito di Pantelleria)

  1. $26
Scirafi is less intense in terms of the immediacy of its aromas, but the wine does come alive in the mouth. Flavors of apricot, raison, dried fig, almond and honey are enjoyable and long-lasting.  — M.L.  (2/1/2008)

Abraxas 2007 Kuddia del Moro Mondeuse (Sicilia)

  1. $56
Made with Mondeuse grapes grown on the tiny island of Pantelleria off the coast of Sicily, this is a strange interpretation with vegetal aromas backed by meaty tones and a dark, concentrated color. Fine tannins appear on the finish with a touch of bitterness on the close.  — M.L.  (7/1/2011)

Abraxas 2008 Kuddia delle Ginestre Zibibbo (Sicilia)

Here’s a dry white wine made with Zibibbo grapes (a type of Moscato) that are normally vinified as sweet wines. In this case, however, the wine shows some of the floral aromatics that are typical of the variety, just without the same intensity. The outcome is a strange one with an alcoholic bite at the end.  — M.L.  (7/1/2011)

Abraxas 2006 Kuddia del Gallo White (Sicilia)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
This is a very fragrant 70-30 blend of Zibibbo and Viogner with aromas that recall scented candle, lavender soap, exotic fruit and a touch of chopped mint. It’s a strange and somewhat awkward wine with big aromas that definitely outmatch its lean structure in the mouth.  — M.L.  (11/1/2008)
