A fine example of Yakima Valley Syrah, this is a chewy, dark, smoky, coffee and bitter chocolate-infused wine with immense staying power. The fruit provides a cassis and blackberry backbone; the tannins and smoke and oaky flavors roll on through the lengthy finish. Big, brawny and delicious.

Creamy with a smooth streak of rich butterscotch, this is a very appealing wine that seems to gather strength as it slides through the mouth. It hits a whopping 15.3% alcohol, and yet retains a silky feel and a nice mix of peach, apricot and papaya fruits. It just goes on and on, almost like a dessert wine without the sugar.

Very spicy, with an intense bouquet of toast, seed and pungent herb. Rich and fruity in the mouth, it’s a complex mix of melon, passion fruit, papaya, guava and sweet orange. The fruit salad rolls back into oaky, buttery flavors for a full-throttle finish. Another 15.5% effort from Airfield, but here the fruit can stand up to the barrels.

Sharp scents with a light hint of cardboard, piercing lemon oil and pineapple, minerality and lemon tea. The flavors follow, and the wine has good concentration and depth, with a dry, toasted cracker and wet stone finish. It gets better and better in the mouth.

Much improved from past efforts, this firm and fruity Tempranillo has a lush core of boysenberry and black cherry fruit. It’s finished with screwcap, and may require decanting to push it open, but it will reward your patience with a deep and focused wine that has some cellar potential.

This is all Merlot, tight and toasty, with generous black fruits compacted into a dense core. This one needs more bottle age, and/or substantial decanting time, but it shows excellent depth and polish already.

This new winery located just outside of Prosser hits the ground running with a luscious, viscous, creamy Pinot Gris that tastes like a pear-flavored creamsicle. The fruit is almost tropical, right at the edge of mango/banana, but not fat or flabby. This is a perfect sipping wine. Screwcap.

As it should, this reserve Syrah steps it up a couple of notches from the winery’s regular bottling. Dark, meaty, laden with tangy blue fruit flavors and lots of smoked ham and sage; this is a savory wine to, well, savor. It opens up nicely in the glass, layer upon layer, and finishes slowly with a balanced mix of fruit, earth, stem and tannin.
