Dark, moody and broody, this is a thick wine with fleshy tones of black cherry and prune backed by graphite nuances and exotic spice. There’s nice personality here and smooth texture accented by sweet vanilla and cherry highlights.
Foja Tonda, also known as “Casetta,” is an extremely rare grape variety found in the Trentino area of northern Italy that shows ripe fruit and plum aromas with soft, mellow tannins. It provides enough density and concentration to pair with winter meat dishes.
Spearmint and chocolate aromas add character to the raspberry on the nose. Berries, cocoa powder, pepper and herbs create an exciting palate, one that leads nicely into a smooth, lengthy finish that’s graced by mint and solid but forgiving tannins. Colle Ara opens with a light copper color that reflects the natural hue of the grape skins of Pinot Grigio. The aromas include white almond, grapefruit and peach cobbler and the mouthfeel is fresh but creamy at the same time.
Herbal and citrusy, this is a cleanly made Pinot Grigio that offers a modicum of complexity. Pear and citrus flavors mingle with notes of bitter herbs. Finishes with a hint of bitter grapefruit pith but also lingering apple notes.
