Alfred Gratien NV Cuvée Paradis Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $143
A ripe, dry wine with delicious mature fruit, touched by wood from barrel fermentation. Grapefruit, almonds, some yeastiness all give complexity, as does the acidity that follows this intense wine right through to the finish.  — R.V.  (7/1/2009)

Alfred Gratien 1998 Brut Millesimé Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $118
Beautifully mature wine in the dry Alfred Gratien style. It has grapefruit flavors, but the yeast, toast, almonds and dried herbs character are now fully developed. A great wine.  — R.V.  (7/1/2009)

Alfred Gratien 1997 Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $95
One of the few houses still to ferment in wood (Krug is another), Alfred Gratien cultivates an intense style of wine, which has toasty, buttery characters as well as richness. From 1997, this wine is lighter than other Alfred Gratien vintages, showing more acidity than richness, but there is still a stylistic similarity there.  — R.V.  (11/1/2006)

Alfred Gratien NV Blanc de Blancs Brut Chardonnay (Champagne)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $99
A steely style of Champagne, crisp, dry and cool. To fill out the structure, there is a hint of apricot and an intense citrus flavor. The finish is long, dry, super fresh.  — R.V.  (7/1/2009)

Alfred Gratien NV Cuvée Paradis Brut Rosé Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $110
Onion-skin color leads to a wine that is packed with deep fruit flavors. Considerably dry but a great food wine, with good acidity and ability to age well in bottle. The sample tasted was too young, and needed at least a year’s aging. Imported by Domaine Select Wine Estates.  — R.V.  (12/1/2005)

Alfred Gratien NV Rosé Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $79
There really is only a merest hint that this is rosé, just a touch of red fruit. Mainly, this is a crisp, pink grapefruit- and lemon-flavored wine, still dry in the Alfred Gratien style, although richer than others in the range.  — R.V.  (7/1/2009)

Alfred Gratien NV Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $50
A very lean, dry style that focuses on its acidity and green fruits. This makes it a style that needs good bottle aging—the sample tasted was too young. But for those who like dry, crisp Champagnes, this is beautifully made. Imported by Domaine Select Wine Estates.  — R.V.  (12/1/2005)
