Alpha Omega 2007 Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $130
Awesome Cabernet from this esteemed vineyard in Oakville. Defines the modern Napa style in the perfectly ripe black currant and blackberry fruit, and the ultra-refined tannins. Hard to exaggerate the depth and length, the sheer opulence of this 100% Cab. It was aged in 80% new French oak, which adds even richer notes of wood smoke and sweet vanilla. Should evolve…  — S.H.  (8/1/2010)

Alpha Omega 2006 Proprietary Red Wine (Napa Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $82
This is a big, powerful Bordeaux blend that clearly needs time. Tasted in early 2009, it’s very tannic and dry, although you can detect the massive cassis and plum flavors. It would be a pity to open before 2012, if you can keep your hands off it. Could eventually stun. Alpha Omega is a winery to watch.  — S.H.  (6/1/2009)

Alpha Omega 2007 ERA Red (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $170
The richness of this wine is immediately evident. It defines lushness, opulence, velvety ripeness, complexity, in short, Napa Bordeaux at its heady best. It’s not subtle, offering waves of blackberry jam, black currant and chocolate flavors, but it’s so good, you just can’t keep from drinking it. And after all, that’s the first duty of wine. Only 550 cases produced…  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

Alpha Omega 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

There’s a tannic toughness to this young wine. It’s like chewing on dried black currants. Once they start to dissolve in the mouth, lovely flavors of sweet blackberries emerge, and then take over through a very long, spicy finish. It’s quite a beautiful Napa Cabernet, but it does need time. Best 2013–2019.  — S.H.  (12/1/2010)

Alpha Omega 2007 Proprietary Red Wine (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $86
There’s something very fine and compelling about this Merlot-based Bordeaux blend. It’s powerful in oak-inspired blackberry, black cherry and black currant flavors, but even more noteworthy is the quality of the tannin structure, which is firm and classic. Just feels rich and dramatic, with great weight and density. Give it a few years in the cellar to mellow, and…  — S.H.  (12/1/2010)

Alpha Omega 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $74
Bone dry and closed in tannins, this Cab requires time to come into its own. The argument in favor of ageability is balance. It has the supple, promising feel of a young wine that will blossom in the cellar, with a rich core of black currant, mineral and cedar flavors. Best after 2012, but decant if you open the bottle before then.  — S.H.  (6/1/2009)

Alpha Omega 2006 ERA Red (Napa Valley)

  1. $160
This is a Bordeaux blend. It’s very dry and very tannic, and high alcohol gives it a not unpleasant heat that lifts the blackberries and cherries into roasted fruit territory. You’ll find additional notes of dark chocolate, licorice and pepper. Could develop over the long haul.  — S.H.  (6/1/2009)

Alpha Omega 2010 Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  1. $36
A superb Sauvignon Blanc. The cool vintage gives it brilliant acidity, modest alcohol and dryness, yet it’s wonderfully rich in long hangtime citrus, wet stone, green apple, apricot and mineral flavors. Better than the excellent 2008, a white Bordeaux-style wine to drink now.  — S.H.  (10/1/2011)
