Alto 3 2006 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Catamarca)

  1. $13
Fairly stemmy on the nose, with rhubarb and raspberry pushing things to the red fruit side. The palate feel is dry and basic, while the flavors of cherry and raspberry are candied and sweet. Somewhat sugary on the finish, but good for the little-known region of Catamarca.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Dry, brambly and a touch salinic, with a basic set of berry flavors and a hint of vanilla to sweeten and soften things up. On the back end the fruit fades fairly fast, leaving a hollow feel and a light wash of tartness.  — M.S.  (11/1/2009)

Alto 3 2008 Reserve Torrontés

Vanilla and a dusty hollowness define the nose, and then comes an extremely sweet and sugary palate that almost makes your teeth and jaws hurt. Very sweet and unctuous, and thus it’s to be avoided if dry whites are all you drink.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)
