Big and earthy, with char, savory spice and black fruit aromas. The palate is full and bold, with ripe tannins and delicious flavors of herbs, baked berries, integrated spice and leather. Smooth, long and muscular; made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Syrah.  — M.S.  (9/1/2011)

Anakena 2007 Ona Viognier-Riesling-Chardonnay White (Rapel Valley)

  1. $18
Anakena’s top white blend is a horse of a different breed. It’s tangy from the Riesling, fruity and floral from the Viognier, and held together in the middle by the Chardonnay. Overall it has good zest and balance, and it should be a fine match for Thai and other spicy foods.  — M.S.  (3/1/2008)

Cola, blackberry and coconut aromas get this Cachapoal Malbec going in an attractive fashion. Feels good, weighty and properly tannic, with bold berry, chocolate, spice and depth to the palate. Toasty, dark, spicy and nice on the finish, but also oaky tasting.  — M.S.  (6/1/2012)

More neutral than fruity or pungent, with vivacity and minerality on the bouquet. Feels lifted, medium-bodied and citrusy, with lime, tarragon, wet stone and green apple flavors. Level and chiseled on the finish.  — M.S.  (6/1/2012)

Anakena 2007 Single Vineyard Viognier (Rapel Valley)

  1. $15
Not your usual warm-climate Viognier. It has typical buttercup, acacia and honeysuckle notes, but since it was only 20% barrel fermented it isn’t a thick wine. Instead the focus is on apricot, white raisin and citrus flavors. Not yet in the U.S. market but hopefully it’ll arrive soon.  — M.S.  (3/1/2008)

  1. $11
Alive and healthy, with floral, red berry and spice aromas. It has a structured feel and more than solid raspberry, plum, vanilla and spiced flavors. Turns darker and more chocolaty on the finish. Offers good fruit, oak and lots of herbs and spice.  — M.S.  (9/1/2011)

Anakena 2009 Ona Cabernet Sauvignon-Carmenère-Syrah Red (Rapel Valley)

  1. $15
Dark and compact up front, with earth, blackberry, herbs and tobacco on the nose. Feels pure and bright, with staunch acidity pushing deep blackberry, cassis and spice flavors. Mellows on the finish, and overall it’s a very nice mixture of Cabernet, Carmenère and Syrah.  — M.S.  (2/1/2012)

Anakena 2007 Alwa Red (Cachapoal Valley)

  1. $37
Coconut and vanilla are the lead aromas, while there’s leather and ripe berry and cassis below the surface. Feels tight, juicy and prickly, with zesty acidity and typical Chilean Cabernet flavors of leafy berry, earth, tobacco and oaky vanilla. Feels snappy and tight as it finishes with oaky, leafy flavors.  — M.S.  (2/1/2012)
