Delicious, some of which is owed to the tasty, toasty new oak barrels. But the Burgundian fruit, expressive and elegant with a pleasing mix of raspberries, cherries and cinnamon spice, nicely balances out the barrels. Balance is the key here, and this rather soft, substantial, yet elegant wine delivers the goods.

Though the winery lists just 22% new oak in the cuvée, it is the new oak scents of toasted hazelnuts and burnt butter that dominate the entry of this young Pinot Noir. A funky undertone, similar to the Nicholas Estate bottling, weaves through the wine, along with a mix of cranberry, raspberry and sour cherry fruit. Despite the 14% alcohol, this wine seems light, delicate, the flavors pleasing but pale, and the finish a gentle fade.
