Anam Cara 2009 Nicholas Estate Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $32
This elegant, Burgundian wine carries nuanced flavors of cranberry, crabapple, raspberry and beet root. Tart and acidic, with nicely-balanced tannins, it neither masks nor apologizes for its herbal aspect. Excellent length and structure overall.  — P.G.  (6/1/2012)

Anam Cara 2009 Nicholas Estate Reserve Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $45
The reserve gets a little tighter selection and an extra new oak barrel or two; it brings a broad, strawberry-flavored palate, with accents of pine and forest. The finish is lightly toasty, with a streak of dark chocolate.  — P.G.  (6/1/2012)

Anam Cara 2009 Nicholas Estate Riesling (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $19
This gentle, lightly off-dry Riesling was fermented primarily in neutral oak, which seems to have softened the entry without impacting the flavors. Aromatic highlights of honeysuckle and orange marmalade introduce a full palate with a complex fruit mix including raspberry, citrus and orange. The finish brings an impression of cotton candy.  — P.G.  (3/1/2011)

Anam Cara 2006 Heather's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $65
Planted to a single Dijon clone (114), this single block of Pinot Noir from the estate vineyard expresses its individuality with precision and spot-on balance. Barrel toast meets buttery berries, and the 15% alcohol shows no trace of heat or burn. Rather, it suggests an increasingly rare honesty and lack of manipulation; this is what it takes to ripen these grapes…  — P.G.  (11/15/2008)

Anam Cara 2006 Reserve Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $45
Delicious, some of which is owed to the tasty, toasty new oak barrels. But the Burgundian fruit, expressive and elegant with a pleasing mix of raspberries, cherries and cinnamon spice, nicely balances out the barrels. Balance is the key here, and this rather soft, substantial, yet elegant wine delivers the goods.  — P.G.  (11/15/2008)

Anam Cara 2007 Nicholas Estate Riesling (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $22
Though not quite up to the complexity of the 2006 Riesling from Anam Cara, this stainless-steel fermented, slightly off-dry bottling brings a lot of pleasure to the table. The alcohol is just under 12%, the residual sugar just over 1%. Tart fruit flavors of quince, pink grapefruit and green apple are nicely blended; the wine moves seamlessly into a medium-long…  — P.G.  (11/15/2008)

Anam Cara 2006 Nicholas Estate Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

  1. $33
Though the winery lists just 22% new oak in the cuvée, it is the new oak scents of toasted hazelnuts and burnt butter that dominate the entry of this young Pinot Noir. In the mouth there is sufficient fruit to compete with, if not quite match, the barrels. It’s a pretty Pinot, with plum, berry and herb flavors; the tannins have some earthy flavors as well, and the…  — P.G.  (11/15/2008)

Anam Cara 2008 Nicholas Estate Reserve Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $40
A funky undertone, similar to the Nicholas Estate bottling, weaves through the wine, along with a mix of cranberry, raspberry and sour cherry fruit. Despite the 14% alcohol, this wine seems light, delicate, the flavors pleasing but pale, and the finish a gentle fade.  — P.G.  (3/1/2011)
