Andeluna 2005 Grand Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)
-
$50
Coconut and inky black fruit melt into an ultrarich and layered bouquet, and that’s the perfect entree to the wine’s sweet, broad, chocolaty black fruit flavors that come with a cool mint accent. Boiled down this is nothing more than a concentrated, bold Malbec that’s sweet, tasty and uncomplicated. Drink now through 2011.

Andeluna 2003 Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

Winemaker Silvio Alberto, working with consultant Michel Rolland, is clearly a proponent of the bigger-is-better school, and he deserves credit for making big wines that are balanced despite being brawny. Andeluna 2004 Pasionado Red (Uco Valley)
-
$55
Andeluna’s top wines tend to be ripe and plump, and so they come across as easy to drink and less demanding. This blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is devoid of astringency and hard tannins. It’s ripe, just a little rugged, and integrated such that the berry flavors are forward and don’t need to fight to be appreciated.

Andeluna 2006 Celebración Reserve Red (Mendoza)
-
$20
A power-packed blend of 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot that offers mossy aromas, earth and lush black fruit scents. The palate is lively yet balanced, with saturated wild berry, toast, anise and pepper flavors. Dark, toasted and showing licorice on the finish. A little hot and aggressive, so drink in late 2010 through 2012.

Andeluna 2004 Limited Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

Expect a fair amount of forward, creamy oak and you’ll be just fine digging into this rich, healthy Malbec (with some Cabernet Franc). Intense blackberry, black cherry and chocolate flavors bring a smile even if they don’t seem that complex. But on further thought, this wine is about hedonistic richness, barrel notes and pleasure as opposed to stirring things up…
