Though the wine's flavors and aromas are dark—earth, black cherry, black plum—it still presents a cheerful, not black and brooding, face. Cooler-climate cherry fruit on the palate is tart and sweet. Chewy and medium-bodied, and a very nice value.

Nose is a nice mix of lime, gooseberry and jasmine, and the mouthfeel is a mix of chalky smoothness and a dash of viscosity. Peach, pear and lime peel flavors fade into a medium-length finish.

Medium- to full-bodied, this richly earthy Shiraz also brings along plenty of complexity in its aromas and flavors of smoke, tobacco, cola and blackberry. There’s some oak, but this bargain-priced beauty is more about displaying the Clare Valley terroir than simple fruit or oak, unusual in this price range. Drink now–2012.

This is a bright, balanced Chard with a clean, chalky mouthfeel and nice Golden Delicious apple, passion fruit and peach flavors on the palate. Finishes with dry citrus flavors. It screams summer, so enjoy it outside while the weather’s fine.
