Made by Karl Wente for golfer Annika Sorenstam, this Chardonnay is luxuriously big, oaky and full of vanilla, caramel, ripe apple and lime characters and very good for its style. Textured and looking for buttery lobster rolls or similar such fare to pair itself with.

Annika Vineyards 2008 Syrah (Livermore Valley)

This labeled Syrah has a fair amount (21%) of Cabernet Sauvignon in it, as well as 3% Petite Sirah, but whatever the mix the wine comes off as heavy and dark, super intense with notes of burnt tar, brick and cooked bacon, not the least bit feminine.
