Antica 2007 Antinori Family Estate Red (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $55
Grown on Antinori’s original property, high on Atlas Peak, although you’d never know it from searching the front or back labels. It’s a very fine wine, dry and elegantly constructed, with little of the baby fat over-the-topness that affects some Napa Cabs. Within that firm structure are extraordinarily complex blackberry, black currant and spicy plum flavors…  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)

Antica 2008 Townsend Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $95
Doesn’t say so on the label, but this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Atlas Peak area. Very dry and tannic, with an astringent lockdown, it’s functionally undrinkable now, but it does show the intensity of this mountainous region for Cabernet, with explosive blackberry, blueberry and black currant flavors. All indications are that it’s an ager. Hold until 2015…  — S.H.  (4/1/2012)

Antica 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley)

  1. $55
A new wine from Piero Antinori, grown on one of his vineyards on Atlas Peak. (Antica is a contraction of Antinori and California.) It’s quite a good wine, made in the modern style of lush ripeness and soft approachability. Explodes with milk chocolate, blackberry, cassis and cedar flavors, and fully ready to drink now.  — S.H.  (6/1/2009)

Antica 2009 Chardonnay (Napa Valley)

  1. $35
A softly gentle, ultrarich Chardonnay. Fruity flavors of pineapples and Key lime pie are enriched with notes of caramelized vanilla, buttered toast, sautéed banana and honey. A stony minerality offers much needed weight and balance. Delicious. Drink now.  — S.H.  (12/31/2010)
