Arcadian 2005 Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills)

  1. $60
Lower in alcohol and more elegant than most Santa Rita Pinot Noirs, this beauty has succulent cherry fruit flavors grounded in earthier notes of tobacco, dried herbs and black pepper. Good now, but should improve after 2011.  — S.H.  (10/1/2009)

Arcadian 2005 Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills)

  1. $75
Shows an herbal, tobacco and mushroom edge to the sour red cherry and pomegranate fruit, in a lightly delicate, dry mouthfeel. With its coat of furry, peppery tannins, this young Pinot needs time. It’s a good example of a less-ripe, but very elegant, style. Best after 2011.  — S.H.  (10/1/2009)

Arcadian 1999 Pisoni Pinot Noir (Monterey County)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $80
Rich and fragrant, with an abundance of earth and dense fruit to the bouquet. Roasted plums and black cherry dominate the palate, which despite being thick is amazingly balanced. This has all the components of a classy wine: ripe fruit, earth notes and persistence. It can age for five or more years. Cellar Selection.  — W.E.  (10/1/2002)

Arcadian 2003 Rio Vista Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills)

  1. $65
There’s a rich, earthy grounding to the intensely ripe cherry, cola, vanilla, cinnamon, clove and brine flavors that makes this savory wine balanced and interesting. At nearly four years of age, it tastes fresh and young, and has a good eight years ahead of complexity.  — S.H.  (6/1/2007)

Arcadian 2002 Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills)

  1. $50
I didn’t care much for Arcadian’s ’01 Fiddlestix, but with the ’02, they’ve hit the mark, producing a Pinot that appeals for its broad, pretty fruit and supple tannins. It’s enjoyable now for the ripe cherries, raspberries, tangerines and vanilla cream flavors, but the acids and tannins are such that, even though it’s more than four years old, it still has another…  — S.H.  (6/1/2007)

Arcadian 1999 Gary's Vineyard Syrah (Monterey)

  1. $50
The bouquet of this "big and chewy" Syrah is a complex tiramisu, black-cherry and smoke melange. More than one reviewer described this Syrah’s palate as "very black," and noted distinctive charcoal, black-pepper, plum and chocolate flavors. Finishes pretty black, too, with black pepper, toast and even tannins.  — W.E.  (11/1/2001)

Arcadian 2001 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay (Monterey)

  1. $30
One of the more distinctive Chards I’ve had this year, notable especially for its very high acidity and mineral and lime complex. The lime tastes like a cool custard, flavored with vanilla, while the minerals bring to mind liquid steel. One hundred percent new French oak slathers it all with buttered toast.  — S.H.  (6/1/2005)

Arcadian 2002 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands)

  1. $45
I actually prefer this to Arcadian’s 2001 Pinots, with which it was released, for its clean, pure framework of acidity and fruit. It’s certainly a lively, brisk wine, with cool-climate flavors of cola, cherries, rhubarb and oak. Showcases the delicacy yet sexiness of a fine Pinot Noir.  — S.H.  (6/1/2005)
