Argiolas 1997 Turriga Grenache (Sardinia)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $50
Caramel, floral and dried herb on the nose fuses elegantly with what follows in the mouth—juicy raspberry, plum and spice. Finishes in a crescendo of fruit and tannins that will only get better with time. Cellar Selection.  — C.S.  (5/1/2002)

Argiolas 2005 Angialis Nasco (Isola dei Nuraghi)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $65
This is a particularly delicious dessert wine from Sardinia (95% Nasco and 5% Malvasia) that would pair with the dried biscuits and almond cookies that are so popular on this Mediterranean island. The wine offers aromas of honey, apricot and orange peel.  — M.L.  (9/1/2009)

Argiolas 2006 Angialis White (Sardinia)

  • Online Exclusive
Angialis is superripe, thick and sweet. It shows thick syrupy concentration and glides smoothly over the palate thanks to the high glycerine content. It would probably pair better with aged cheese or pecorino than with dessert.  — M.L.  (12/31/2010)

Argiolas 2004 Turriga Red (Isola dei Nuraghi)

  1. $70
Turriga is this estate’s top red wine that boasts the extraction and sophistication to pair with Gouda or sharp Cheddar. This vineyard-designate wine is mostly Cannonau (85%) with smaller percentages of Carignano, Bovale and Malvasia Nera. It’s firm and pulpy with young tannins. You can age this wine five years or more.  — M.L.  (9/1/2009)

Argiolas 1996 Isola dei Nuraghi Red (Sardinia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $9
One of several great wines from Sardinia that prove that wineries on this island have been steering a course toward a higher quality. Ruby red color and ripe sweet fruit onh the palate; dominated by a strongly textured, rustic structure. A whole lot of wine for the money.  — W.E.  (11/15/1999)

Argiolas 2006 Is Solinas Carignano (Isola dei Nuraghi)

  1. $40
Carignano is enhanced with a small percent of Bovale (5%) for extra structure, tannins and alcohol. This is a mature wine with thick concentration and intense aromas of sweet spice and clove over a wealth of black fruit.  — M.L.  (9/1/2009)

Argiolas 2001 Perdera Red (Isola dei Nuraghi)

  • Best Buy
  1. $12
This wine is a bit special. It’s made mostly of the native Monica grape, which gives off unbridled aromas to go with leathery nuances and wild raspberry flavors. Owner Antonio Argiolas’s winemaking team ferments the wine in glass-lined cement tanks for purity, then ages it for 16 months in French oak. Perdera is spicy, precocious and out of the ordinary; best of…  — M.S.  (11/15/2003)
