This is a big, powerfully built Riesling, almost oily in texture, with green apple, wet stone and honey notes accented by peppery spice. Long and mouthcoating on the finish; impressive.

Hints of graphite mark the nose, but this wine is tight and restrained aromatically. Green apple and citrus flavors are crisply defined and tightly focused, ending long, with mouth-tingling acids. Give it another couple of years to develop in the bottle.

Kesseler’s gems are the GG wines, but this is a medium-bodied, cleanly made introduction to the estate. Petrol, apple and wet stone notes are pretty standard Riesling fare, rendered in a crisp, refreshing style.

Honest and clean, with white flower charm and a mouthwatering palate that shows nice honeysuckle and lily character. Quince and beeswax come through on the crisp but slightly sweet finish. Drink now or in 2011.
