Austin Robaire 2001 Elerding Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $115
Smells rich and jammy--loaded with cassis and vanilla. In the mouth, there's more of the same, plus added notes of coffee and blackberry allied to a creamy, supple texture. Would rate even higher if not for the relatively short, tart finish.  — J.C.  (6/6/2005)

Austin Robaire 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $55
A dark, firm, rich wine, with plenty of fat, meaty, oaky power. This has decent, medium-bodied fruit, and plenty of well-managed oak. But it is a bit one dimensional, without extra depth.  — P.G.  (9/1/2003)

Austin Robaire 2002 Le Petit Garcon Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $18
Pleasant black cherry flavors on entry, then the wine turns a bit light and tart, the fruit overshadowed by the rough tannins.  — P.G.  (6/1/2005)

Austin Robaire 2001 Elerding Vineyard Reserve Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $85
Rather oaky, with scents of cedar and vanilla dominating the fruit. Don’t get us wrong—it’s good oak—it’s just unintegrated and unclear if it will age into complete harmony. There is some dense blackberry fruit undermeath, so maybe this will improve with further aging.  — W.E.  (9/1/2005)

Austin Robaire 2002 La Petite Fille Syrah (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $18
Sweet cracker and strawberry jam are the main notes struck here, with a whiff of leather. The leather and barnyard flavors seem to gather strength, along with smoke and licorice. Some tasters will find this wine too rustic; others will love it.  — P.G.  (6/1/2005)

Austin Robaire 2002 Klipsun Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Red Mountain)

  1. $55
Though Klipsun is widely regarded as an iconic vineyard for Washington, this wine smells more of raisins and prunes than of fresh, ripe grapes. The flavors are broad, baked and pruny; yet the tannins remain a bit green and chalky. The wine doesn’t knit together and seems unlikely to do so in the future.  — P.G.  (6/1/2005)

Austin Robaire 2001 Charmaine Angela White (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $26
Already a deep gold, with hints of brown and oxidative scents of hay and honey. The mix is 55% Roussanne, 10% Viognier and 35% Chardonnay.  — P.G.  (9/1/2003)

Austin Robaire 2001 Ward Family Vineyard Pinot Noir (Washington)

  1. $26
Quite light but sweetly pretty, showing some candy cherry fruit. The tannins are soft and the wine is simple and pleasant, but insubstantial.  — P.G.  (9/1/2003)
