Avenue 2005 Gran Reserva Malbec (Mendoza)
Price
$18
Chunky and full, with raisin, oak and mocha aromas. The palate comes across round and healthy, with mint and herb notes accenting plum and blackberry flavors. To justify its “gran reserva” moniker the oak is front and center, but the fruit is solid.

Avenue 2007 Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)
Price
$12
Aromas of medicinal cassis and plum show mild latex accents, but the wine is concentrated and solid on the palate, with cola, cassis and black fruit flavors. Medium bodied and fairly long on the palate, with cough drop, cassis and a pretty good feel to the finish. Equal parts Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Avenue 2007 Malbec (Mendoza)
Price
$12
Sweet, dark aromas of blackberry and blueberry are dense and solid, while the saturated palate features dark-fruit flavors that touch up against being baked but draw back. The finish is sweet and chewy, and overall this a good wine for the ripe, simple format.

Avenue 2003 Merlot (California)

Fruity and rustic, dry and balanced, with chocolate-cherry flavors and a good finish.

Avenue 2007 Torrontés (Mendoza)
Online Exclusive
Price
$12
Basic Torrontés aromas of citrus, greens and saline water greet you. The wine is light-framed and rings and zings on the palate. Lemon and green apple share the palate before lime rises up on the finish. A bit clanky but gets the job done when chilled down.

Avenue 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)
Online Exclusive
Price
$12
A bit herbal and brambly, with baked, earthy red fruit aromas. Modest raspberry flavors are mostly what you get off the narrow palate, and the finish follows suit as it fades out with a tight, herbal character. Rudimentary Cabernet.

Avenue 2002 Zinfandel (California)

. Raw and leathery, with raisin and coffee flavors, and dry. Should wake up with olive oil, cheese and rich meats.
