This finely crafted wine, with its perfumed, juicy, solid character, is both powerful and elegant. It is certainly dry in the approved Portuguese manner, but the fruit powers through the tannins and leaves a rich aftertaste. Imported by Admiral Wine Imports.

Despite the name, this isn’t fermented in amphora, but in wood. But it does have a traditional feel, densely spiced with firm dry tannins, a great weight of ripe fruit tamed only slightly. Worth aging for 2–3 years.

With its new wood flavors, this is a ripe wine with a Chardonnay-like richness. It has an opulent feel, flavors of white currants and vanilla combining easily with a lighter, fresher acidity.

Rich, smooth, with great wafts of creaminess to go with a judicious amount of toast. White plum and pear flavors precede a finish with impressive concentration and delicious acidity.

Made from Alvarinho grapes in the cool region north of Lisbon, this wine brings out surprising tropical characters in the grape. There is light acidity, but the texture is creamy, with suggestions of wood to go with the delicious lime and mango flavors.

The Bacalhôa quinta is more famed for its Cabernet-based red. Here Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc continue the Bordeaux connection. A superrich wine, although the creamy, full texture is beautifully balanced with a good layer of citrus. Full-bodied, stylish.
