Baigorri 2004 Reserve Tempranillo (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$32
Aromas of bold black cherry, leather, bacon and sandalwood scream “modern,” yet its age renders it a bit classical. The palate is mildly woody but the flavors or creamy vanilla, dill and balsamic berry fruits are excellent. Toasty and full of coffee and depth on the finish. Drink now through 2014.

Baigorri 2003 De Garage Tempranillo (Rioja)
Price
$60
Starts with leather, aged cheese and other oaky notes, but it settles and unfolds with airing. Smooth, plump and showing a fine mouthfeel, this is a wine that works even if it doesn’t overwhelm. Blackberry, cassis and herbal flavors are nice, and the finish is smooth and tastes of fresh coconut. Drink now thru 2010.

Baigorri 2005 Crianza Tempranillo (Rioja)
Online Exclusive
Price
$20
A fresh and appealing style of Rioja with aromas of dried cheese, dill, cedar, tobacco and kirsch. The palate has a pleasing juiciness and layered flavors of cherry, rapsberry and vanilla. Mocha and coffee flavors accent the well-oaked finish, and overall this is pure and kicking, but not too hefty or extracted. Drink now through 2013.

Baigorri 2003 Reserve Tempranillo (Rioja)
Price
$33
A complete wine with a bold bouquet strengthened by ample oak. Ripe, portly and smooth in the mouth, with dark fruit flavors touched up by herbal tea and tobacco accents. Long and chocolaty on the finish. Chewy and a bit tannic; drink now through 2011.

Baigorri 2004 Crianza Tempranillo (Rioja)
Price
$22
Big and baked, with aromas of cheese and leather offsetting sweet black fruit. Flavors of cola, blackberry and chocolate are as baked and sweet as the nose, and the feel is grabby and leaves a sugary residue on the finish. Wants to be a modern, ripe wine but proves to be simple and overdone. Imported by The Portfolio Group.
