Banrock Station 1999 Shiraz (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $7
Blackberry and creamy vanilla aromas with cinnamon accents mark the nose of this very pleasant red. Displays good depth of fruit, licorice notes and well-integrated oak on the supple palate. Decent acidity keeps it from being cloying, and the wine finishes with good length. Best Buy.  — M.M.  (10/1/2000)

Banrock Station 2000 Semillon-Chardonnay (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $6
This white blend has a decidedly floral, garden-y bouquet with honeysuckle, green-bean and butterscotch notes. Though the wine is medium-full (and much bigger than you’d expect a Chardonnay to be), the apple, cream and grapefruit flavors aren’t over the top. Finishes medium-long, with a pleasant citrusy tang.  — D.T.  (9/1/2001)

Banrock Station 2000 Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $6
Ah, the great outdoors. On the nose, raspberry, blackberry and plum meet tobacco and hickory, campfire-like aromas. Palate smolders with smoke, oak and charcoal over fruit flavors; this is a big, but not too heavy, wine. Slightly hot finish is peppered with black fruit flavors. This will overshadow many dishes—try it with barbecue or s’mores.  — W.E.  (9/1/2001)

Banrock Station 2000 Shiraz (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $8
An interesting spiciness adds interest, keeping this round, accessible wine from being just another bottle. The dark fruit shows tobacco, cumin, anise and red pepper notes. It’s soft, not fat, on the palate, and goes down easy with a tangy pepper-licorice close.  — W.E.  (10/1/2001)

Banrock Station 2003 Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon (South Eastern Australia)

  1. $6
Easy-drinking and pleasing. Vanilla bean, cream and musky aromas usher in red fruit (plum, cherry, you name it), a judicious amount of wood, and a streak of anise. 43,000 cases produced. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.  — D.T.  (8/1/2005)

Banrock Station 2005 Semillon-Chardonnay (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $5
This blend of 75% Semillon and 25% Chardonnay boasts rather subdued flavors, but works in just enough ripe pear and melon flavors to satisfy. It’s medium-bodied, with hints of dried spices for complexity and a mouthwatering finish. It’s a great value at this rock-bottom price.  — J.C.  (2/1/2007)

Banrock Station 2006 Merlot (South Eastern Australia)

  1. $5
Round in the mouth, creamy in texture and plump with cherry fruit, this is what so many inexpensive Merlots often fail to deliver. Hints of mint and baking spices add interest to the slightly caramelized fruit, and there’s just enough acid for balance. Drink now.  — J.C.  (11/1/2008)

Banrock Station 2006 Shiraz (South Eastern Australia)

  • Best Buy
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $5
Banrock Station’s 2006 Shiraz is a throwback to the kind of super value Australian wines used to provide with more regularity. For $5, consumers get a decently textured, supple wine with plenty of forward blueberry and plum fruit and touches of chocolate and pepper. Look for it by the glass or buy it by the case for entertaining on a budget.  — J.C.  (8/1/2008)
