Batasiolo 2001 Vigneto Corda della Briccolina Nebbiolo (Barolo)

This comes from a 1.6-hectare (4-acre) vineyard in Serralunga solely owned by the Doglianis. Floral notes grace the nose, picking up leather and plum flavors. Rich, deep and supple on the palate, this was by far the most impressive of the Batasiolo wines we recently sampled. Aged in barrique.  — W.E.  (12/1/2006)

Batasiolo 2000 Riserva Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50
A big, rich, thick almost chunky wine, the flavors were surprisinly delicate and very complex. The nose is bright strawberry, mint and leafmeal; it was less developed on the palate, and needs time to knit together. I would have preferred to see some more length to the finish, but a very promising and interesting wine.  — M.G.  (12/22/2011)

Batasiolo 2004 Vigneto Corda della Briccolina Nebbiolo (Barolo)

The Corda della Briccolina vineyard cru offers extra pulp and intensity that comes forth as sweet Christmas spice, lavender flower, bee’s wax, cola and licorice. It is our top-scoring wine from this producer thanks especially to the quality of the texture, which is softer, rounder and more supple. Drink it with rosemary-marinated lamb.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Batasiolo 1998 Vigneto Corda della Briccolina Nebbiolo (Barolo)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $70
The ample tannins of this wine are deceptively soft—but don’t let that fool you. This one should age gracefully through 2015. For now, it’s dominated by earth, tar and tobacco, but shows glimpses of plum, particularly on the finish. Aged in barrique, but not particularly oaky. Cellar Selection.  — W.E.  (4/1/2003)

Batasiolo 1997 Vingna Corda della Briccolini Nebbiolo (Piedmont)

  1. $60
This flagship wine from Batasiolo comes from a southwest-facing vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba. It is already developing a brick-red color and soft, velvety tannins. Flavors of pomegranates and black plums give it a sweet-and-sour character, leaving balancing acidity to finish.  — R.V.  (11/15/2002)

Batasiolo 2004 Vigneto Boscareto Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Vigneto Boscareto offers a pretty bouquet of delicate mineral nuances that are carefully laced between notes of red berry, exotic tea, licorice, sweet ginger and clove. The wine is sharply focused and chiseled with rock-tight tannins and lingering notes of ash and smoke.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)

Batasiolo 1997 Vigneto Cerequio Nebbiolo (Piedmont)

  1. $52
A dense, black wine with high acidity. The fruit, though, has a very ripe, juicy character, with flavors of black figs and truffles. The main impression is of an older style of wine, with concentration and dry tannins overlying the fruit, giving the wine the ability to develop well.  — R.V.  (11/15/2002)

Batasiolo 2004 Vigneto Cerequio Nebbiolo (Barolo)

The Vigneto Cerequio cru has produced remarkable results in 2004 for all the producers who farm here including Batasiolo. This wine offers bright notes of cherry and blackberry that are followed by warm tones of vanilla, spice, licorice and smoke. It’s got a lot going on in the mouth thanks to the wine’s lively flavors and firm consistency.  — M.L.  (4/1/2009)
