Bear Creek 2001 Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi)

  1. $16
Rich and plush in the nose, with hints of ripe fruit and toast. On the palate, it’s a bit leaner than the nose would indicate. Still, it’s fairly complex and silky, with good blackberry, cherry, herb and spice notes. Tannins are firm and the finish is moderate.  — W.E.  (11/1/2003)

Bear Creek 1998 Pinot Noir (Rogue Valley)

  1. $30
A burly surprise from southern Oregon; there are flowery, almost honeyed elements to the black-fruit nose. It scores big points in the mouthfeel category—it’s round, chewy and creamy. Bear Creek 2000 Petite Sirah (Lodi)

  1. $18
Okay in flavor and style, although there are some overly sweet notes that bothered tasters. Cherries, black tea, plum, mint and licorice are just a few of the flavors that are wrapped in soft, gentle tannins. One taster loved the rich mouthfeel.  — W.E.  (4/1/2003)

Bear Creek 2000 Zinfandel (Lodi)

  1. $18
Rich in wild berry fruit, with brambly, pepper flavors suggesting black raspberry jam. Abounds in spices, coffee and tobacco. The tannins are on the aggressive side, and the wine feels jagged and edgy in the mouth. —S.H.  — S.H.  (2/1/2003)
