Beaver Creek 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)

  1. $29
A big, lusty Zin, with a blast of briary raspberry, cherry, cocoa, beef jerky, anise, pepper and sandalwood flavors. No mere fruit bomb, it’s framed with a fine acid-tannin structure, and finishes dry. Best now and over the next six years, before the fruit starts fading.  — S.H.  (8/1/2011)

Beaver Creek 2008 Fairytale Red (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $39
Beaver Creek makes a variation of Fairytale every vintage and this one, sourced from Napa Valley, is 41% Merlot, 36% Zinfandel and 23% Syrah, a mix that seems to work very nicely here. The wine’s Zin almost tastes as if it has mountain tannins; the wine is overall herbal and earthy, ripe and sturdy with balanced fruit.  — V.B.  (3/1/2012)

Beaver Creek 2008 Zinfandel (Lake County)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $29
Beaver Creek’s Lake County Zin is juicy and spicy, full of stewy red fruit and rough-hewn tannins that are thick and fragrant of oak and molasses. Definitely big though well made for its style. Time and air are its friends.  — V.B.  (3/1/2012)

The Lake County producer travels to Dry Creek for this Zin with good results. The wine has a lot of cherry cola and a hint of oaky smoke, its tannins well integrated into flavors of nuts and mint and an herbal finish.  — V.B.  (3/1/2012)

Beaver Creek 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford)

  1. $39
Made in a leaner, drier style than many, this Cabernet’s blackberry and cherry flavors have an edge of mint and tobacco. Turns quite tart on the finish. Drink now.  — S.H.  (10/1/2010)

Beaver Creek 2007 Horne Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Lake County)

  1. $39
Good blackberry, black currant, cocoa and cedar flavors in this Cab, and it’s nicely dry, with firm, finely ground tannins. Turns rather sharp on the finish, and that tartness may never go away.  — S.H.  (10/1/2010)

Beaver Creek 2009 Horne Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon (Lake County)

  1. $29
A soft, round Cabernet that’s got leather, cedar and sage going on as well as heavy tannins and oak. Made from 100% organic grapes grown in Lake County, the wine reveals itself best after a bit of air.  — V.B.  (11/1/2011)
