Belasco de Baquedano 2005 AR Guentota Old Vine Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $25
Part of the fun of exploring Argentine Malbec is tasting all the new kids on the block. Having not seen Guentota before, all signs point to high quality. The bouquet is dark, with accents of cola, mineral and burnt toast giving it a masculine edge. Round, plump and full in the mouth, with cherry, berry and cassis flavors. A total package of a wine, with character…  — M.S.  (12/1/2008)

A deep, concentrated wine with a touch of raisin and latex on the nose. The palate is deep and pure, with cola, chocolate and pure berry flavors, and the finish has great persistence and warmth. Belasco de Baquedano 2006 Swinto Old Vine Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $35
Blackberry, ripe plum, mineral and coconut aromas blend well together, and the palate is warm, full-bodied and deep, with ripe berry, chocolate and warmth. Mocha, vanilla and coffee flavors all carry the toasty finish to a fine crescendo. Having not rated this wine before, we find this to be a fine debut. Drink now through 2013.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Belasco de Baquedano 2008 Swinto Old Vine Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $35
Jammy and dense on the nose, with herbal blueberry and prune aromas. This is powerful Malbec, with meaty, sweet flavors of black fruit, blueberry, dry spice and menthol. The feel is soft and easy, with a finish that is smooth and deep but not overly potent.  — M.S.  (12/31/2010)

Belasco de Baquedano 2006 Llama Old Vine Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $15
Nice black cherry, cassis and earthy rubber aromas form a familiar, friendly type of Malbec nose, while the palate is juicy and lifted by acidity. Flavors of blackberry and chocolate are solid and under control, and the finish is mildly peppered and consistent with what comes before it. Drink now through 2011.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Belasco de Baquedano 2008 AR Guentota Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $25
Starts out with leathery, cheesy aromas and then the nose transitions to heft, prune and blackberry. The palate is good but feels a touch flat, with sweet, candied black-fruit flavors. Falls off some on the finish, which tastes slightly milky. Sweet and mostly ripe, but as a whole it doesn’t seem to be 100% there.  — M.S.  (12/31/2010)

Belasco de Baquedano 2006 AR Guentota Old Vine Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $25
Quite toasty and black, with baked plum, berry and crusty, oaky aromas. The palate is sort of soft and lazy, but amid the thickness there’s roasted plum and black cherry flavors. Finishes with some wayward buttery oak, heat and coffee notes. Chewy, ripe and a bit grabby and heavy.  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)

Belasco de Baquedano 2010 Rosa de Argentina Rosé (Luján de Cuyo)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
Clean smelling but neutral and neither here nor there. The palate has an o.k. feel but the flavors are dry, distant and bitter, with citrus pith and more bitterness to the finish. Serve well chilled.  — M.S.  (11/1/2010)
