Bella Piazza 2006 Esola Vineyard Zinfandel (Shenandoah Valley (CA))
Online Exclusive
Price
$44
This is a very dense, bone dry and full-bodied Zin with plenty of distinctive features. It shows the wild mountain berry and enormous range of dusty Asian spice flavors you expect, but also interesting notes of dried thyme and sage that finish with sweet anise and bacon. In a word, complicated. The alcohol is high, but manageable.

Bella Piazza 2007 Old Vine Esola Vineyard Zinfandel (Shenandoah Valley (CA))
Online Exclusive
Price
$32
A spicy, chewy, rustic wine marked by crusty tannins and wild berry and raisin flavors. It’s also totally dry, at the cost of high alcohol, which is 15.7% and gives it a burn on the finish. In its own way, classic country-style Foothills Zin, brawny and strong.

Bella Piazza 2007 Old Vine Rio Volpe Zinfandel (Shenandoah Valley (CA))
Online Exclusive
Price
$35
Shows the rustic tannins and ripe to overripe flavors you often find in Foothills Zin, with wild berries, currants and raisins. Fine with barbecue, pizza, tacos and similar fare that calls for a lusty, dry red wine.

Bella Piazza 2007 Estate Bottled Syrah (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

With candied, sweet and sour cherry flavors, this Syrah is pretty rustic. It’s very soft, but okay for a big party.

Bella Piazza 2007 Old Vine Zinfandel (Shenandoah Valley (CA))

Tannic, soft, hot and sweet. That pretty much describes this 15.5% Zinfandel, which tastes Porty in raisins, currants and chocolate.

Hot, tannic and simple, with cherry jam and currant flavors accompanied by high, tart acidity and chile-pepper alcohol heat. An unbalanced wine.
