Belo 1999 Touriga Nacional Vintage Reserve Port (Napa Valley)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $40
Very sweet and viscous in the mouth, a wine that blankets the palate with velvet and fine dusty tannins. The flavors are of sweetened espresso, blackberry and blueberry liqueur and cassis, dark milk chocolate and rich cocoa, and a beautiful peppery note that braces against the overt sweetness. One of the best California Ports in recent memory.  — S.H.  (12/1/2002)

Belo 1999 Muscat Gris (California)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
A Beaumes-de-Venise-style wine, sweet but not too sweet, with pleasant peach, nougat and apricot flavors and a Sherry-like quality that adds interest. The honeyed flavors are balanced by crisp acids, finishing clean.  — S.H.  (9/1/2003)

Belo 1999 Dessert Wine Sauvignon Blanc (Napa Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $25
Frankly sweet, with a dollop of Sémillon, this white Bordeaux-style wine has powerful, pronounced flavors of smoky honey, peaches, and especially pears, with a finish that tastes distinctly of white chocolate. These flavors are very strong and pure, and call for similar foods.  — S.H.  (9/1/2003)

Belo 1999 Sousao Port (California)

  1. $15
Fairly sweet, with dark chocolate, black cherry, and sweetened espresso flavors, set off by adequate acidity. Lacks the layers and complexity of the best Portuguese stuff, but at this price, it’s a nice wine to sip with chocolate desserts.  — S.H.  (12/1/2002)
