Benton-Lane 1999 Sunnymount Cuvee Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
Cellar Selection
Price
$65
Good texture and more flesh than the B-L reserve from the same excellent vintage. This is a beautifully crafted and balanced wine that could pass for a good Gevrey-Chambertin. Flavors of beetroot, herb, leaf, cherry and spicy oak; will certainly improve with further cellar time. Just 100 cases were produced.

Benton-Lane 2008 Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley)
Price
$17
A fragrant, forward wine with a palate-cleansing mix of citrus, pear and white peach. The wine has a spicy lift to the midpalate, and lingers deliciously through a long finish.

Benton-Lane 1999 Reserve Pinot Noir (Oregon)
Price
$30
Right out of the bottle this is a smooth, tightly constructed Pinot, layered with beetroot, tomato, sassafras and leaf scents, tasting spicy and firm. The fruit is dark and laced with coffee, and it seems certain to improve further with 3-5 years of bottle age.

Benton-Lane 2009 Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley)
Price
$17
Benton-Lane makes quite a lot of Pinot Gris, stainless-steel fermented and whole cluster pressed, yielding a soft, fragrant, fruity wine with plenty of fresh pear flavor. It flattens out broadly across the palate, full-bodied and lightly spicy. Just a bit more focus would really elevate this wine to the top ranks.

Benton-Lane 1998 Sunnymount Cuvée Pinot Noir (Oregon)
Price
$50
In the mode of other ’98s this is a forward, fruity, approachable and quite likeable wine. It shows fruity, soft scents and round, forward, fairly simple flavors. Tobacco and leaf highlight a flavorful finish.

Benton-Lane 2006 First Class Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
Price
$60
Aromas of cherry, spice and mint lead into tart pie cherry and wild berry fruit, dusted with cocoa and spiced up with 16 months in French oak barrels. Unusual for most high-end Pinots, this is sealed with a screwcap.

Benton-Lane 2006 Pinot Gris (Willamette Valley)
Price
$16
Stainless steel fermented, this bright, juicy PG did not go through malolactic fermentation. The crisp acids add definition and lift, the flavors a generous mix of pear, apple and tropical fruits. Tasted just a few months after harvest, it’s a great wine for summer enjoyment while the young fruit flavors are in full bloom.

Benton-Lane 2005 First Class Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)
Price
$60
Although it is not entirely laced together, this substantial wine makes a good impression with its ripe purple fruits and strong vanilla and coffee and coconut barrel notes. Big flavors and firm tannins create an impression of strength and weight; what the wine lacks in finesse it makes up for in muscle. It’s chunky and rough-hewn, but carries plenty of flavor. Screwcap.
