Bernard Magrez 2003 La Bienvenida Malbec (Mendoza)

  1. $39
Frenchman Bernard Magrez is building a global brand via high-quality, smartly named wines such as this (La Bienvenida means The Welcoming in Spanish). But the cuteness ends there; this is serious Malbec with maple, leather and coffee aromas in addition to rich berry scents. The palate is integrated and deep, with lively acidity and tannins but enough cuddly fruit…  — M.S.  (8/1/2007)

Bernard Magrez 2005 Château Tour Blanche Red (Médoc)

  1. $20
A big, solid wine, foursquare and chunky. The fruit directs its plum fruit flavors to richness, some sweetness, with coffee and licorice as added complexity. There is a great tight wood element giving dryness.  — R.V.  (6/1/2010)

Bernard Magrez 2004 Paciencia Tempranillo (Toro)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $75
It seems that all of Monsieur Magrez’s new wines from around the world have a similar DNA: size, ripeness, plenty of new oak and ultimately quality. This big-boned Toro shows tons of ripe black cherry flavors darkened by bitter chocolate and espresso. It’s immensely oaky now and should benefit from a couple to 10 years on its side. Imported by Bernard Magrez.  — M.S.  (11/1/2007)

Bernard Magrez 2010 Château Moulin d’Ulysse Red (Haut-Médoc)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $29
This small 24-acre property has produced a powerful, rich 2010 that layers its big black-plum flavor with complex tannins and wood notes. Dry and firm, it is still defiantly young and needs several years to round out.  — R.V.  (2/1/2013)

Bernard Magrez 2010 Château Gramond Red (Haut-Médoc)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $24
This is a rich wine still dominated by solid, firm and dry tannins. Its black and red fruits are ripe and juicy, and its freshness comes from acidity that appears on the finish. Age this balanced effort for 4–5 years, at least.  — R.V.  (2/1/2013)

Bernard Magrez 2004 Si mon père savait... Red (Côtes du Roussillon)

  1. $50
Named in reference to the fact that his father kicked him out of the house at 12 years of age, this superripe cuvée of 46% Carignan, 30% Syrah, 19% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre seems almost slightly nutty at first, then shows prune and chocolate notes that persist through the extended finish. It’s a bit alcoholic, but richly textured and velvety. Imported by Bernard Magrez.  — W.E.  (11/1/2007)

Bernard Magrez 2004 Château La Tour Carnet White (Bordeaux Blanc)

  1. $65
From young vines (planted in 2001), this is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Sémillon and a small amount of Muscadelle. Marked by toast and vanilla, it’s plump and round on the palate, finishing with some oaky spice. Imported by Bernard Magrez.  — W.E.  (11/1/2007)

Bernard Magrez 2004 Magrez Tivoli Red (Médoc)

  1. $84
From a small parcel close to Château Tour Blanche, this delicious, rich but fresh Cabernet Sauvignon has structured fruit, concentration and exuberant blackberry acidity and balanced, solid tannins from the wood.  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)
