Bethel Heights 1999 Flat Block Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $35
This has long been a top Oregon Pinot, and it shows its breeding in this tricky vintage. The nose is redolent of sweet, grapey cherries, aromatic and quite pretty. In the mouth extra dimensions emerge: fruit, mineral and earth. Balanced and tight, some additional cellaring will flesh it out and let it unwrap. Editors’ Choice. —P.G.  — P.G.  (4/1/2002)

Bethel Heights 2004 Pinot Gris (Oregon)

  1. $15
Full and spicy, this marries ripe, pear and mango-flavored fruit with spicy cinnamon and green tea. It’s got the harmonious integration and lingering fruitiness that makes you want second and third glasses.  — P.G.  (2/1/2006)

Bethel Heights 1998 Southeast Block Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  1. $35
Very light in color. Opens with blueberry, rhubarb, bacon and cedar aromas. From front to back it sits on a light frame, and on the palate it dances. Shows some buttered-toast and wood on the finely etched finish. Classy and lean, not sugary sweet. Elegant, in the Bethel Heights house style.  — M.S.  (12/1/2000)

Bethel Heights 1999 Southeast Block Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  1. $40
Pretty and richly scented, this wine is stuffed with black cherry fruit, lightly accented with toast and coffee. Still so tightly wound that its richer dimensions remain a bit veiled. Needs more bottle time to really strut its stuff. —P.G.  — P.G.  (4/1/2002)

Bethel Heights 1998 Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  1. $30
Fine aromas of sour cherry, violets and spice open this light-bodied but nicely textured wine. Very clean cherry fruit shines on the palate, and there is very good fruit-to-acid balance here. Has a lengthy finish with dry cherry flavors, a mineral note and even tannins. Focused and attractive already, it will age well for two or three years.  — M.M.  (12/1/2000)

Made from purchased grapes, this clear, bright wine offers sweet fruit packaged in a clean, elegant style. The spotlight is on the fruit, sweet and pure, accented with light spice and finishing with a hint of mocha. —P.G.  — P.G.  (4/1/2002)

Bethel Heights 1999 Wädenswil Block Reserve Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)

  1. $35
Classy and tight, with a tart cherry, herb and tomato profile and racy acidity that is very ’99. Light and smooth, with an even chalk-dust feel, it stays lean and clean through the long, sour cherry finish. This will even out a bit with time in the bottle, but not flesh out much. It will always be angular in manner, with great appeal to those who enjoy high-strung…  — M.M.  (11/1/2001)

Bethel Heights 2008 Flat Block Estate Pinot Noir (Eola-Amity Hills)

  • Online Exclusive
Lovely aromatics mix floral, fruit and barrel components in equal proportion. The wine has some solid tannins, and sits in the mouth with a bit of gravitas. Wild cherry, raspberry, fresh herb, and a little stiffness to the finish. Definitely a wine to age a few more years.  — P.G.  (3/1/2011)
