If more Merlot tasted like this, maybe winegeeks would stop looking down their noses at it. This is a creamy, lush wine, filled with hints of mocha, vanilla, black cherry and plum that swirl together into a long, fruit-filled finish. Drink now.  — J.C.  (5/1/2007)

Bird in Hand 2001 Nest Egg Cabernet Sauvignon (Adelaide Hills)

  1. $40
A feminine-boned, elegant style of Cab—you’ll think “Old World” in body, but it’s definitely New World in flavor. Black cherry, plum and even a little raspberry show on the palate, and on through the finish, where there’s some stayingpower. Offers compelling pastry dough, red fruit and eucalyptus on the nose.  — D.T.  (5/1/2004)

Bird in Hand 2001 Two in the Bush Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon (Adelaide Hills)

  1. $16
Mixed plums, black cherries and white pepper aromas are a good sign of what’s to come on the palate: Fresh, powerful plum fruit, plus oak that grows more obvious toward the finish. Still, you won’t be able to resist the yummy, bouncy fruit. Makes a good case for big reds in Adelaide Hills.  — D.T.  (9/1/2004)

Bird in Hand 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon (Adelaide Hills)

  1. $28
A rustic-feeling wine with black cherries and plums at the fore; gummy, chewy tannins in the mouth and juicy plum and blackberry aromas complete the package. A very nice wine, and a good introduction to how nice Adelaide Hills reds can be.  — D.T.  (5/1/2004)

Bird in Hand NV Joy Pinot Noir (Adelaide Hills)

  1. $70
Aromas are of cherry and ginger; salmon-copper in color. What you get on the palate follows suit: light cherry and peach flavors, packaged in a medium-bodied sparkler that is soft on palate entry and grows crisper and more tangy toward the finish. Pleasantly perplexing in that it manages to feel both fragile and forceful.  — D.T.  (12/31/2004)

Bird in Hand 2000 Shiraz (Fleurieu Peninsula)

  1. $26
The bouquet is deep, condensed and full of vanilla and berry syrup. The flavors, however, are a bit candied, and the finish offers just more of the same. And while it’s thick and tasty, it is also loaded with lemony wood notes, most likely from American oak. —M.S.  — M.S.  (3/1/2003)

This rose-colored sparkler boasts alluring aromas of baking bread and strawberry jam on toast. The palate is fresh and lively, laced with strawberries and cream. Refreshing and satisfying.  — C.S.  (12/1/2002)
