Bodega Goulart 2008 The Marshall Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $25
Lush, pure, welcoming and sturdy, with dense black fruit aromas leading to a healthy, racy palate that’s full of live-wire blackberry and cassis flavors. Seriously stacked Malbec with no timidity and a finish that oozes layered black fruit, chocolate and complexity. Drink this winter or hold until the fall-winter of 2011. 3,000 cases made.  — M.S.  (11/1/2010)

Bodega Goulart 2007 Grand Vin de Goulart Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $60
A purple monster with lovely aromatics of campfire, mint, blackberry and spice. Very deep in the mouth, but not overweight or even slightly out of balance. The flavors are robust and pure, with an emphasis on black fruit, cassis and chocolate. And the finish brings nuances of cardamom, nutmeg and peppercorn. By far Goulart’s epic wine. Drink now through 2013.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Attractive, somewhat unusual floral/violet aromas are in the lead, with blueberry, cassis and pastry sitting behind that. The palate is smooth yet lively, with flavors of wild berry, black currant, cola, chocolate and even bacon from the French oak. Tasty, balanced and interesting; 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.  — M.S.  (12/31/2009)

Score Chasers: South America 2011
Full and deep berry aromas are the greeting. The wine is rock solid and full in body, with lusty blackberry and wild raspberry flavors along with spice and nice tannins. A complete, balanced, uncomplicated Malbec that gets it right.  — M.S.  (8/1/2011)

Bodega Goulart 2006 Paris Goulart Reserva Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon (Mendoza)

  1. $19
After sinking the 2005 version of this wine for being discombobulated, this seems like a total turn-around. It’s dense and jammy like the previous year, with similar toasted qualities. But it’s also better balanced and mentally challenging, with flavors of black olive, baked berry fruit and earth. Finishes rich and oily, with a distinct coffee flavor. Drink now…  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)

Bodega Goulart 2007 The Marshall Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $25
A unique Malbec that is purple to the gills, foxy, and a little reduced on the nose. The palate is big and dense, with an herbal/floral/black fruit flavor profile that isn’t common. This wine avoids typical Malbec darkness for its own path, which is unusual but challenging.  — M.S.  (12/1/2009)

Bodega Goulart 2007 Reserva Malbec (Luján de Cuyo)

  1. $19
Violet in color, with a huge blast of barrel on the nose. This is one oaky youngster, but amid the creamy, toasty wood-driven notes you’ll find forward black cherry and plum fruit and a nice spiral of vanilla, mocha and coffee. Full-bodied and controlled, but definitely heavily oaked.  — M.S.  (2/1/2009)

Nice from the get-go, with lime, citrus and fresh herb aromas. The palate is round and whole, with easygoing flavors of lemon, mango, papaya and melon. Fresh and pleasant on the finish, and perfect for aperitifs.  — M.S.  (2/1/2010)
