Bodegas Farina 2009 Dama de Toro Tempranillo (Toro)

  • Best Buy

Opens with a load of sweet, candied black-fruit aromas but this wine excels on the nose because it’s composed and precise for being so young and simple in scope. Velvety, rich black-cherry flavors run the show, and the finish brings length and an herbal shading. Very nice for a wine from Toro at this price.  — M.S.  (12/15/2010)

Bodegas Farina 2006 Spada Tinta de Toro (Toro)

  • Best Buy
  1. $11
Sweet blackberry aromas veer toward kirsch and crème de cassis, while the palate is perfectly ripe and solid, with medium-deep berry flavors and lots of chalky grab to the fairly tannic finish. For a young, basic Toro wine, this exhibits modest signs of elevation and class.  — M.S.  (6/1/2008)

Bodegas Farina 2004 Gran Colegiata Campus Red (Toro)

  1. $38
Raisiny and sweeet smelling, with baked qualities but also a bitter bite of horseradish. The palate is deep and hard, with burnt notes, tough tannins and berry flavors softened by buttery oak. Beefy and rubbery, but with enough ripeness to be worth a look.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Bodegas Farina 2007 Gran Colegiata Barrica Tinta de Toro (Toro)

  1. $12
A touch minty and dry smelling, with simple, solid, slightly underdeveloped flavors. All in all, it’s hard to find much brightness in this wine; instead it’s subdued and chocolaty, and it never really crosses the Rubicon of ripeness. That said, it goes down easy and doesn’t burn like many Toro wines.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)

Bodegas Farina 2008 Dama de Toro Tempranillo (Toro)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $13
Mildy green tobacco aromas lead the way along with forest floor, fern notes and standard berry aromas. The palate opens with forceful acidity, while the flavors are a bit underdeveloped as they lean toward blackberry. Mild bitterness is also part of the picture as the wine flattens out on the back side.  — M.S.  (2/1/2011)

Bodegas Farina 2009 Spada Tinta de Toro (Toro)

  1. $13
Heavy, dark, candied and jammy, with a hint of licorice to the nose. The palate is chunky and concentrated, with meaty berry flavors and a dose of chocolate. Short on the finish, yet fruity if a bit flat.  — M.S.  (12/15/2010)

Bodegas Farina 2008 Peromato Tempranillo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  • Best Buy
  1. $9
Raspberry and rubber aromas are solid if not refined, while the firm palate is sweet and full of black cherry flavor. Rough, tumble and unsophisticated in the mouthfeel department but ripe and tasty throughout, with dark shadings on the finish.  — M.S.  (4/1/2010)

Bodegas Farina 2008 Spanish Sons Tempranillo (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León)

  1. $11
Earthy blackberry aromas come with an herbal/leafy edge. The palate is clacky and tannic, but low on volume and stuffing. Tastes of hollow but dark berry fruits, with a hint of buttery oak. A good but average type of Tempranillo.  — M.S.  (10/1/2011)
