Bodegas Fuentespina 2001 Reserva Especial Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $50
Anyone fond of great red wine should swoon over this lovely thoroughbred that’s just beginning to enter its prime. The nose offers hard hickory, pure red fruit, a touch of leather and herbs, and much more. Vital and serious in the mouth, with pulsing raspberry and plum flavors. Strapped on the finish, with tannic bite but also sweet flavors of mocha and vanilla…  — M.S.  (6/1/2007)

Bodegas Fuentespina 1998 Reserva Especial Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $72
Rich and attractive to the nose, with hints of smoked meat, tobacco and black fruit. The palate is both developed and enveloping; it blends meat, berries, earth and spice into a whole that’s beyond the ordinary. The finish drives on for minutes with mocha, coffee and charred meat. This has all the right components in all the right places.  — M.S.  (3/1/2004)

Bodegas Fuentespina 2001 Reserva Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $21
Full and bold on the bouquet, where grilled meat and leather blend with ripe fruit to create an alluring, inviting whole. Black cherry and raspberry flavors are smooth and serious, while at the core there’s a jammy, syrupy richness that conveys total ripeness. Best from 2008 through 2011.  — M.S.  (6/1/2007)

Bodegas Fuentespina 1999 Crianza Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $22
Cool and collected, with a deeply fruity nose. The palate pours forth with red fruit, particularly cherry and raspberry, with some vanilla shadings to prop it all up. Fairly lush and chocolaty, with a fine transition from palate to finish.  — M.S.  (3/1/2004)

Bodegas Fuentespina 2004 F Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $85
A big wine with a big price, F de Fuentespina is toasty and dark like blacktop. The nose features scents of savory sauce and marinade, while the feel is thick, rich and creamy. Dark fruit is front and center, but it’s undeniably saucy and roasted, which may be due to partial aging in Eastern European oak. It also weighs in at a hefty 15% alcohol.  — M.S.  (12/15/2009)

Bodegas Fuentespina 2003 Crianza Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $16
Quite smoky and tough at first, but airing unleashes earthy fruit aromas along with some road tar and char. In the mouth, the wine delivers enough fruit and acidity to keep it fresh, while the finish is your typical blend of young oak and chocolate. Drink now through 2009.  — M.S.  (6/1/2007)

Bodegas Fuentespina 1997 Reserva Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

Looking for a mature reserva at a reasonable price? This one boasts aromas of damp soil, cedar, clove and wood, followed by rich flavors of sweet cherries and sauna cedar. Thins out on the finish, so drink now.  — J.C.  (11/1/2001)

Bodegas Fuentespina 2006 Selección Crianza Tempranillo (Ribera del Duero)

  1. $18
Solid if a bit soupy and tomato-driven on the nose. In the mouth, there’s a nice offset between herbal, red fruit characteristics, tobacco and black fruit. Overall, it’s a gritty, tight, honest Ribera wine with a long, powerful finish. Just ripe enough, with indviduality and identity. Drink now through 2012.  — M.S.  (6/1/2010)
