Bodegas Iranzo 2004 Mi Niña Tempranillo (Utiel-Requena)
Price
$11
Black raspberry and raisin control the bouquet on this carbonically macerated wine from inland Valencia. Lively plum and black cherry work the rubbery, mildly tannic palate, while the finish is leisurely enough. A touch narrow in flavor but broad in feel.

Bodegas Iranzo 2006 Vertus Tempranillo (Utiel-Requena)
Online Exclusive
Price
$13
Cloudy in appearance but fairly clear on the nose and palate. Rhubarb and cherry aromas give this an austere, red-fruit bouquet, and the palate rests on racy cherry and doesn’t budge. Lean late in the game, with coffee and bitterness to the thin, mildly grating finish.

Bodegas Iranzo 2009 Vertus Tempranillo (Utiel-Requena)
Online Exclusive
Price
$10
Jammy and flat smelling, with little to no depth to the nose. The palate is snappy but there’s just enough body to offset the acidity, while the flavors of red fruits are tart and regular. Dull tasting, with a fairly long finish that’s unexciting.

Bodegas Iranzo 2006 Vertus Sauvignon Blanc (Utiel-Requena)
Online Exclusive
Price
$13
Wax and peach-pit aromas give it a decent opening act, but the palate is dull and totally without a future. Flavors of orange and grapefruit are mealy and drying, while the finish is almost bitter. Though it’s Sauvignon Blanc, it tastes like a mediocre cava with no bubbles.

Bodegas Iranzo 2004 Vertus Crianza Tempranillo (Utiel-Requena)
Online Exclusive
Price
$15
A lesson in contrasts: the nose is both weedy and sweet, with green strawberry aromas mixing with caramel. The palate is also green and slightly bitter, but that’s offset by some jammy berry sweetness. Medium in terms of weight, but with burdensome sugars and a clumsy finish.

Bodegas Iranzo 2010 Vertus Spanish Rosé Bobal Wine Made with Organically Grown Grapes (Utiel-Requena)
Online Exclusive
Price
$9
Heavy plum, bubblegum and wheat grass aromas are less than convincing. The palate offers sour cherry and plum skin flavors along with cleansing, sharp acids. Tart and citric.

Bodegas Iranzo 2002 Vertus Reserva Tempranillo-Cabernet Sauvignon (Utiel-Requena)
Online Exclusive
Price
$35
Almost volatile with its cooked rhubarb and berry aromas. Screechy black cherry and raspberry flavors don’t really help it along. Simply a hard, closed-down wine that isn’t up to its price tag.
— M.S.
