A rewarding wine that isn’t overly pricey or difficult to enjoy. Dark, lightly baked aromas hint at raisin and marshmallow, while the palate has a deep texture and vital acidity. Savory, tea-infused flavors bring pulse and kick, and as a whole it delivers a true reflection of what Ribera del Duero should be.

Baked, roasted and earthy, with a deep palate of plum, berry and spice aromas. We wouldn’t label this a complex or complicated wine; what you smell and taste initially is more or less what you get. Spicy and chocolaty on the finish, and satisfying.

Salinic, oceanic aromas come with touches of green herbs and lime. The palate is crisp and focused with apple, lime, kiwi and melony flavors that set up a green-tinged, persistent finish that’s minerally and citrusy to the final drop.

Mineral, earth and graphite aromas give this rugged young Ribera complexity to go with racing berry fruit. The palate is a bit sharp and pounding, with boysenberry flavors coming with tannic bite and zest. Crude but fresh and clean, this wine should be smoother by the end of 2011 into 2012.

Plum and berry aromas are chunky and bring notes of leather and animal to the table. This offers size and density along with mildly lactic red-fruit and spice flavors. There’s an outsized oak flavor and resin to deal with on the finish, but overall this captures the essence of Ribera del Duero for under $20.
