Ripe enough in berry fruit and totally soft, this wine is a little too sweet for me, suggesting as it does a dessert confection, although it’s probably technically dry.

It’s not unusual for a young white wine to bristle with SO2 after you pop the cork, but it’s never a pleasant experience. This one was slow to blow off, marring what otherwise is a pleasantly crisp and fruity wine.

A bit raw and rustic, with a sharp, acidic finish, but saved by modest cherry fruit and softening oak influences, this Cab is okay for everyday purposes.

Simple, semisweet and harsh, with a peppery sting, this Zin gains a point for its rich berry flavors. Sourced from Lodi, Amador and Fiddletown.

Good citrus, lemongrass and green apple flavors in this wine, but it’s rather sugary, with a fruit juice simplicity. Yet the price is right, if you don’t mind a slightly sweet white wine.
