Bolla 2006 Le Origini Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $70
Le Origini Amarone offers light and elegant touches of cherry, blackberry, prune, plum and mature fruit. This expression is not overripe or jammy, setting it apart. In fact, although there are big fruit flavors in the mouth, they are framed nicely by polished mineral and exotic spice.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)

Bolla 2007 Le Origini Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $64
Le Origini delivers generous aromas of ripe fruit and blackberry jam followed by spice, leather and a touch of black road tar. It closes long, sweet and dense and would pair with spicy lamb stew or curried meat specialties.  — M.L.  (12/1/2011)

Bolla 2005 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $50
This is a charming Amarone that delivers pretty aromas of dried fruit, black cherry, spice, cedar and cigar box. The wine offers thick density and a deep, brooding color with fresh herbal accents that recall dried mint or oregano. It’s still a bit raw but will undoubtedly find harmony within the next two years.  — M.L.  (12/1/2008)

Bolla 2010 Tufaie Garganega (Soave Classico)

  • Best Buy
  1. $13
Tufaie gets its name from the chalky tufa stone deposits that characterize its vineyard soils. That quality adds a pristine, dry quality to the wine that works very nicely with its sweet melon, sage and stone fruit aromas.  — M.L.  (8/1/2011)

Bolla 2001 Corvina (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $45
Fairly toasty, with charcoal, coconut, tobacco and other firm, wood-driven aromas. Racy and tight on the palate, with cedar, raspberry and chocolate flavors. Lean and clean would be the best way to describe it, and it seems as though it would go well with food, even now.  — W.E.  (11/1/2005)

Bolla 1997 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  1. $50
Some almondy sweet scents are followed by leather and dry fruit. The feel across the palate is a bit sharp because of strong acidity, but some leathery, raisiny flavors provide balance. Then a bit of burnt sugar and chocolate add sweetness to the tannic finish. A good Amarone, but not seemingly for long-term keeping.  — W.E.  (5/1/2003)

Bolla 2007 Le Poiane Red (Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso)

  • Editors' Choice
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $14
If you aren’t familiar with Ripasso (a hybrid wine that borrows elements from austere Amarone and informal Valpolicella), this selection from Bolla is an excellent introductory wine. It opens with a deep-ruby color and bright aromas of red cherry, cola, spice and leather. It ends with both sweet and spicy nuances.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)
