Bollinger 1997 RD Brut Champagne Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $260
Disgorged in 2009, this is a toasty wine, rich and concentrated. The idea of long aging before disgorging the yeast cells is to build up the unique complexity of the wine. In this Bollinger has succeeded magnificently. An opulent wine, with aging potential for 10 years or more.  — R.V.  (12/1/2010)

Bollinger 1996 R.D. Extra Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $190
The Bollinger R.D. (recently disgorged) is Bollinger’s answer to a prestige cuvée. Keeping the wine long on its lees (this was disgorged in June 2006) yields a wine that is very much in the rich Bollinger style. This is a beautifully balanced wine, with acidity, intensity and structure in perfect harmony. It is still so young, and certainly could age for years.  — R.V.  (11/1/2006)

Bollinger 1999 La Grande Année Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

With this vintage, there are signs of a wine that is maturing fast. That’s the initial impression. But at the same time, there are wonderful dry fruits, minerality and sweet hazelnuts, all finely in balance. The layers get more complex, bringing in toast as well as acidity. Almost ready, but worth aging.  — R.V.  (12/1/2008)

Bollinger 2000 La Grand Année Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $150
Full, creamy and soft, this is a rich Champagne, very much a food wine. It has great ripe swathes of peach and pineapple flavors, rounded by toast. While 2000 is not a vintage for aging, this opulent Champagne may be the exception.  — R.V.  (12/1/2010)

Bollinger 1995 La Grande Année Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $90
Mucho bang for the extra bucks. This Pinot (63%)-Chardonnay (37%) powerhouse is four-fifths grand cru juice, and carries its weight and richness with a confident swagger. You’ll find lots of toast and leesy components, with the scents and flavors of cheese, roasted nuts and bread dough wafting and working their way through a huge finish. A giant.  — P.G.  (12/15/2002)

Bollinger NV Special Cuvée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $50
The Bollinger style is always rich, food friendly and impressive. This wine is all of those things, with power and intensity of flavor along with ripe fruit, a layer of toastiness and a dry aftertaste. This is a style of wine that can take even more bottle aging. Imported by Paterno Wines International.  — R.V.  (12/1/2005)

Bollinger 1996 La Grande Année Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $90
Blockbuster aromas of honey and toast, ripe apples and citrus are complex from the first pour and develop even more complexity with air, turning meatier and more savory. Creamy and smooth in the mouth, with cascading flavors of buttered nuts and lush fruit, all balanced by great acidity and length. Drink now or hold another 5 years.  — J.C.  (12/1/2004)

Bollinger NV Special Cuvée Brut Sparkling (Champagne)

  1. $65
Always a rich nonvintage, this latest bottling doesn’t disappoint expectations. It has a rich, biscuity character, hints of toast along with pure citrus and fresh apricots. It is ripe, generous, to be drunk with food.  — R.V.  (12/1/2010)
