Bookwalter 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $28
A dense, dark, mysterious wine that could easily pass for a Spring Mountain Cab costing three times as much. This sensational value wine is packed with powerful, dark fruit, muscled around modest oak and buttressed with spicy acid. A knockout!  — P.G.  (1/1/2004)

Bookwalter 2005 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $36
The 2005 continues along the established path of this rising star winery. It’s big, no holds barred, rich and jammy, and just a bit warm at 14.8% alcohol. The fruit is nicely woven together, brambly and dark, and coated with clean barrel flavors of coffee and chocolate. Everything is balanced and forward, but you get the sense that this wine is holding something…  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Bookwalter 2001 Merlot (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
Powerful, pungent, ripe black cherry fruit assaults the nostrils, leading into a taut, slightly gamy, muscular and dense with layers of fruit, tar, smoke and earth. Give it 6 to 8 years to unwrap and it will be sensational.  — P.G.  (1/1/2004)

Bookwalter 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $38
Rich, ripe and fruit-powered, this retains more of the high tones (and citrus) than the Merlot. It’s powerful and young, smooth but a bit chalky on the finish. It’s not yet knit together, and I wonder if and when it will do so.  — P.G.  (12/1/2007)

Bookwalter 1997 Vintner's Select Chardonnay (Washington)

  1. $20
Barrel fermentation, with the full malolactic treatment, yields a ripe, buttery wine that sets up rich and plush on the palate. Despite the fat, buttery style it isn't overblown or flabby, and lingers through a clean, polished finish.  — P.G.  (11/15/2000)

Bookwalter NV Lot 14 Red Wine (Columbia Valley (WA))

  • Best Buy
  • Online Exclusive
A pleasant blend of two Cabs, Merlot and a pinch of Syrah. Unpretentious and affordable, it’s a delight, with firm, muscular fruit, compact and lightly spicy, taking the forefront. If there is oak it is invisible, and unnecessary. The wine shows the simple pleasures of well-ripened Columbia valley grapes.  — P.G.  (1/1/2004)

Bookwalter 1999 Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

  1. $18
The deep green-gold color and bananas-and-crackers bouquet suggest the full barrel treatment was used here. Full, fleshy and ripe, it tastes like mashed bananas in butter sauce...in a good way. Finishes short and a bit sharp.  — P.G.  (11/15/2000)
