It’s a modern, luscious interpretation with creamy vanilla and soft spice lavished over aromas of wild berry and plum. It has the tannins to cut through béchamel sauce.

Boroli is a young and dynamic winery to watch. This Barolo from the gorgeous Cerequio cru is ripe with traditional aromas of wild berry, leather, soft spice and white truffle. Extra character is added by slightly oddball aromas of carrot and smoked ham that work overall to the wine’s favor. Drink after 2015.

Barolo Villero is one of those “Wow!” wines that seduces you off the bat thanks to the intensity and purity of its aromas. The wine is decadently redolent of chocolate fudge, toasted coffee bean and creamy vanilla. The fruit nuances come off as cherry and blueberry. It’s round, supple and gorgeous in the mouth. Drink in 10-plus years.

Plush, soft and redolent of smoked ham, spice, black fruit and chocolate, this expression of the Cerequio cru shows both elegance and power. The wine is well extracted, fresh and firm thanks to the high quality of its tannins and acidity. It ends with firm, cooling notes that would pair well with any meat dish. Drink after 2018.

Boroli is a dynamic winery worth keeping a close eye on. Barolo Villero takes a traditional approach that speaks highly of the beautifully hilly area that shaped the wine. Delicate aromas include wild berries, dried orange zest, apple skin, licorice, tar and cigar box. In the mouth, the wine is streamlined and tight.

The nose of this New World Barolo offers a perfect balance of chocolate and bright red berry fruit. It tastes soft and plush in the mouth and although there’s less density here than some of the more thickly extracted Barolos, it most definitely holds its own. Drink 2015–2025.

Boroli 1998 Nebbiolo (Barolo)

This well-priced offering got off to a slow start in our tasting. Gradually it opened up to reveal lots of oak influence—toast, vanilla, maple syrup and even some dill. But what really impressed were flavors of black cherries and tar that glided across the palate upon masses of soft, enveloping tannins.
