Botalcura 2006 La Porfia Grand Reserve Cabernet Franc (Maule Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $17
Quite nice on the nose, with bold plum, cassis and smoky aromas. It’s more narrow than expected on the palate, with blackberry, plum and other bright fruit flavors. The attack is excellent, but the second act is less impressive. It finishes sort of drab, but overall there are no gripes when it comes to the fruit content.  — M.S.  (5/1/2009)

Botalcura 2007 La Porfia Reserve Malbec (Maule Valley)

  1. $20
A big, smoky mass of a wine with hickory aromas, medicinal notes and berry fruit in spades. Feels a little clampy, tannic and hard, but there’s no arguing with the ripe cassis, berry and mocha flavors. Vanilla and coconut on the finish close the show. Tight and solid overall.  — M.S.  (5/1/2010)

Botalcura 2003 Reserve El Delirio Cabernet Sauvignon (Maule Valley)

  1. $11
Start with the bouquet of crushed violet petals, tar, black olive and berry, and then move on to the forward, ripe palate that stays the course courtesy of firm tannins. Finishes a bit hollow, but with piercing coffee and dark chocolate accents. Imported by Apollo Fine Wines & Spirits.  — M.S.  (7/1/2006)

Botalcura 2005 El Delirio Chardonnay-Viognier (Central Valley)

Our favorite of the Botalcura white wines, there’s only 20% Viognier, but it makes a strong impression, adding floral and orangey scents to this round, creamy wine. Peach and melon flavors show ripeness and class without seeming too sweet or flabby.  — W.E.  (10/1/2006)

Botalcura 2005 La Porfia Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Rapel Valley)

  1. $17
Good Cab, maybe a touch herbal and light, but very solid. Early aromas of cola, leather and blackberry show some herbal, green notes. But the tomato leaf character is not dominant or unappealing, thus in the end this displays classic Chilean Cabernet qualities on a light, agile frame. Drink now.  — M.S.  (9/1/2008)

Botalcura 2006 La Porfia Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Rapel Valley)

  1. $21
Earthy and dry on the bouquet, but there’s an appealing subtlety to the nose that works. The palate is snappy and edgy, with juicy, lightly herbal raspberry flavors. Finishes on the tight and light side, with a touch of green. Good wine but could use a boost of ripeness.  — M.S.  (6/1/2011)

Botalcura 2003 El Delirio Merlot (Central Valley)

  1. $13
Whole and fruity, with some inviting richness to the nose along with alcoholic heat. Driving plum and cherry fruit is ripe, although the feel of the wine is a touch hard. Not long or deep, but good in a front-loaded way.  — M.S.  (2/1/2005)

Botalcura 2003 La Porfia Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Rapel Valley)

  1. $20
Cedary and slightly herbal, but backed by ample cassis fruit, Botalcura’s top Cabernet boasts a silky-smooth texture and nicely balanced acidity—its main drawback is its limited length on the finish.  — W.E.  (10/1/2006)
